Gidday.
I started this thread last year. I have now renamed it and upadates will continue on. The original first post is below. Cheers BenJ Hi All If I source a diff from an EF, can I put it in my EB11? I know the brakes and handbrake setup are different and possible the mounting points for the control arms. What I was thinking was, can I use the control arms from the EB and the backing plate, discs and calipers from the EB. Anyone with experience or thoughts or comments? Regards BenJ

why not just swap the internals mate be easier.

Unfortunately, changing centres is a job for the experts with specialist tools. I am happy to attempt most things myself, but just don't have equipment or space for that, or the dollars to pay for it to be done either. Cheers BenJ

i have a EF/L 3.45 diff in my car..
im using all the EB brakes. rotors etc etc. seemed to bolt up fine

You just changed over the backing plate, and clalipers etc? Which contol/trailing arms did you use? BenJ

Well I bit the bullet and bought an EF XR6 Diff with 3.45 ratio and LSD taken out of a car that had only 122000+ ks on it.
Will be picking it up on Saturday, and when I get some time I will trial fit backing plate and calipers from an EB on the diff. Has anyone got the EF handbrake to work with an EB car? As another option would be to retain the EF setup and mod the handbrake. Hmmmm Will update on my progress. BenJ

Hi i was just wondering how you went with this i am in the same pickle but i want to do it the other way i have a 9 inch that come out of a EA that i want to put in my EF XR6

I only picked the diff up last saturday (I know, why isn't it in yet) and am still working it all out.
What I do know is that the EA had a different yoke and tail shaft. EB11 onwards had a flat plate on the pinion and the same on the tail shaft. At best the nine inch already has this done. At worst use the tail shaft from the EA in the EF. I also recall reading somewhere that the control arms are different in the EA. Good luck. I think you will have more of a hard time simply because it is an EA and they changed from EB11 onwards. BenJ

yeah thats what i am thinking (pain in the a***) I think i will also lose my abs because i would say that the ea doesnt have abs on it so unless i get new axels bye bye abs. But anyway i will see one of these days how hard it is gunna be.

re. your first post. I have just bought , for our EB2, an EL xr6 3.45:1 diff complete [caliper to caliper] from a fellow forum member modded to suit his EB2. It's in transit from Vic. so I cant measure/view anything yet. Vince told me that everything EB2 had bolted straight on except a brake line had to be shortened, [probably the one from the chassis mount?] It's my understanding that the assy then mounted straight onto the EB2. His car was lowered but I'm not sure by how much or if he had to use EL arms, he never mentioned this as a necessity for me to do. Hope this helps a little. Paul

Hi Paulmac
Thanks for the advice. Today I finished removing the Backing Plates and brake lines from my spare EB diff. Looking closely at the EF diff, the backing plates should bolt right up, but the brackets that hold the brake lined in place are missing. I am hoping that once the right hand line (the long one) is located at the diff centre it should be firm enough. I guess I could always cable tie the brake line to the axle housing if I had too. I will post up some pics when I have it done. BenJ

Yes, the pinion flange is the correct one. I intend to use the EF axles. Do you see any problem with that? I get what you mean re the O rings and the EF handbrake brackets. Good idea. Thanks BenJ

Re the brake lines distribution block and diff breather tube, I just unscrewed it off the EB diff, and will screw it into the EF diff. Is this what you did?
