About 6 months ago, my wife hit a curb at speed in our BA fairmont. the car still tracks fine, didn't pull to one side or the other and the tyres don't seem to be wearing badly.
2 weeks ago a knocking noise started up. mechanic couldn't find a problem but didn't have much time to look into it as it was thursday before easter.
I just had a quick look, and the first thing i noticed is this:

I'm assuming that is not normal? knocking could easily be caused by the spring hitting body of shock absorber. what other damage is likely?

Agree with the bent strut - you'd have to strip it down to thoroughly check everything.
If you work the piston, you'll probably find it binding possibly.
The lower control arm might be bent too - seems logical if the strut is bent.
I doubt there is anything wrong with the spring - if it sits straight when not compressed.

definatly looks like a bent strut. fix this problem and then send the missus to a driver training school. curbs don't just jump out in front of you

She was pushed off the road by a bus so it's not her fault. the bit where she kept driving and not stopped to get his details for the two buckled rims is what pisses me off the most!!
