recently did an engine renewal (...a feral XR6) & now I find the the trans wants to hold onto each gear at high rpm upshifts.
Seems to hesitate shifting from 1'st 2'nd & keeps the engine at high rpm for much longer than it should, not sure about the others as I honestly havn't got the balls or the road to know what it does from 3'rd to 4'th! Having a Max Ellery manual here, it states how to perform a trans shift point reset, but doesn't elaborate. Just says to start engine, move shifter to 1'st, drive off & shift up when you want. So is this done at "miss Daisy" speeds or "quarter mile dash for your life" type scenario? Should I be watching the tacho when I do this & select a specific shift point ? Will that change the shift parameter or will the trans continue to allow the engine free reign ? Ultimately I want the trans to grab 2'nd gear at about 3,500 to <4000 rpm, but even in economy mode the trans lets the engine rev to hell before the next gear. So before I jump into the unknown, can some school me on best practice here please. |
