Hi,
I'm up to a new set of rubber on my EL. I started with Goodyear NCT's and they were crap, so I went to Dunlop 702's and they wernt much better, so I went some Pirelli P5000's that were awesome, but dont make them anymore. So I went some Bridgestones and they were average, and now I've got some Yokohama C-Drive's and they're better than average. I'm really looking for something soft and sticky, not too worried about tyre life or cost (within reason) but need them to fit a 15" rim. I'm currently oversized to 225/60R15's ... so something similar to give me some extra width would be good (dont mind them bulging a bit). What can you reccomend ? PS. I spoke to 2 tyre shops around here, they told me not to bother and just buy RE92's! ... needless to say I wont be buying anything from them. |

The yokies you currently have are one of the best value tyres you can run, IMO, they are a bit hard but something like as AVS ES100 are a good step up from there IF they put em into 15's

I have Toyo Proxes 4's on my xr6 225/50/16 and have been really happy with them. Before these I had Goodyear f1 rubber on the rear and couldn't believe the difference, especially as the Goodyears were $250 a corner and the toyo's were $169 each.

Try Falken FK452's, i know they work quite well in wet weather very grippy...Vito

i used to have Sava Intensa 225/60 R15s on the EA.. f**k me they were a grippy tyre, in the wet and dry!

Sava's are rubbish. Toyo Teo's are the go.

and here come the opinions!
anyhting that is a full silica compound really, make sure you ask for that. had a set of full silics hankooks on the eb (cant remember what they were called) and they were a big improvement over the pirelli's that were on it, wet and dry. In the dry with the windows down and driving hard through corners you could hear (and feel) them just grabbing the road and gripping.

Thanks for the tips folks!
- Falken 452's dont come in R15 - Toyo Proxie4 dont come in R15 - Toyo Teo's only come in 215/60R15 ... 10mm less contact with the road ... but after looking around... I found thses: - Falken ZE912's do come in 225/60R15 - Bridgeston Potenza GIII in 225/60R15 ... had Turanza 30's last time Any other thoughts... might phone around for some prices tomorrow and see how I go. |

Anyone know how Nexen goes as a tyre? Seems like the n3000 are a decent cheap performance tyre.

we used to have a set of Falken Ziex tyres on out Lexus... worst tyres weve ever had! they were so f**k noisy!!
put on a set of Dunlop Sport D8's, and thwy are awesome, quiet as, and really grippy too. $300 per tyre though

You know that wider tyres wont provide you with anymore traction, braking or handling..
To do with the same weight being distributed over a larger tyre contact area, they wont even last longer. They just dont look as girly as 175's

A 215/60X15 will give you better steering response due to a smaller sidewall. The 205/65X15 Toyo Teo has better grip and handling a number of cheaper 215 or 225 /60X15's

Will totally agree with what MadMatt said about savas....they are s**t
Dare I say it the savas I have used have been the worst gripping tyre all round......especially in the wet The savas I used were the 225/60R15 intensas and 235/45R17's

Are you sure? I got some recently, but hey, theyre not that good! they screech n squeal like a b**ch cornering at speed, and theyre no better in the wet than my poxy old hard as rock dunlops. |

Bridgestone potenza gIII is a good tyre but you need to run extra pressure in them so they wear evenly 36-38 psi works well and the turanza er30 I'd stay away from.
