Thanks for the info guys i am looking at re-powering my 1989 F150 fuel injected 302w, C6 combo with something more up to date and doing it the cheapest way, with good fuel economy. I did not know who manufactured the 6 speed transmissions. I suppose the ford territory engine and driveline would be the way to go if i could get a cheap enough write off at the auctions. The other option is a diesel engine but anywhere from $8000-$16000 depending on what you want i am just tossing around some options so i can keep the truck as a 4WD. I will probably be better off selling the truck and buying an F250-350 with the auto and diesel engine and save myself the heart ache and dramah...

The falcons fitted with the 6sp auto's have a diff ratio of 2.73. Your F150 should have 4.10 being a 4WD. the 2WD ones had 3.55.

I know you could get an Explorer in the US with a 302W, im not sure what trans it ran though, probably an AODE. Might be worth looking into that.

Might be worth looking into that. yeah pretty sure they had aode boxes. Not entirely sure but if their ratios are anything like the 4ode they are much nicer in first and second than the 4speed BTR's.
