hey i have a bf xr6t and i would like to know if any1 had a problem with their handbrake whilst on a hill cause when i put mine on (front heading up the hill) without putting it in park itll roll backwards but if i reverse it (front down hill) it wont move is that norm with them or not cause with my el it doesnt do it.
I was told by a few pplz that thats how some of the cars are made but to me it doesnt seem right. and could you please tell me how to adjust the handbrake if possible plz as i never had to do it to my el after owning it 4 10 yrs which it never seen a mechanic after waranty ran out

BA and BF had dodgey handbrake issue's... something about the shoes or bushes or something like that.
In some cases it just wont engage. You can take it to Ford for new shoes/bushes. Adjusting yourself i would have no idea. |

with adjustiung it urself im not sure if it the same ba's but u will need to take ur rear wheels off and there will b on the drum a lil rubber black pplug blocking a whole pull it out n then at the bottom of the drum ot slight at bottom on the side there will b like a lil gear u will have to push up with a screw driver till the drum can no longer move then push the gear bit down bout 4 times n then feel the hand brake inside the car should not b more then 6 clicks wont it boiut 4clicks.

The B series need constant handbrake adjustments, they get loose than of course don't hold firmly.

One of the major problems with AU/BA/BF handbrakes is that many mechanics don't always do them right. Sometimes the shoes will drag on the backing plate as well. On the BF's there was a mod done for the handbrake if I remember right?

The handbrake uses a brake shoe and id doubt its worn out already. As said the proper way is to take of the wheels and adjust each side. I had mine done about 6 weeks ago cost me $50 and it won't be the last time it gets adjusted. My mechanic advised me not to pull the handbrake up whilst the car is still moving or reef it to hard. So far so good and the car holds. If you are in the Fairfield area let me know if ya want and ill reccomend you the mechanic or maybe get Ford to adjust it for you.

handbrake adjustments are normally part of the service. guess it depends on the mechanic n workshop.

i had a look at it today and found that the shoes were very low it has done about 70k and it needs replacement around then as i was told the stability control uses that instead of the calipers

Well thats something i didn't know. Heres me thinking that the shoes only hold when the handbrake is applied. I would have thought they would not wear out as the hanbrake is used when the car is stopped and the shoes just hold the car still. Thanks for the info.
