well i just put an xr6 drive shaft in and it didnt have one on it, but its solid and rediculously big on the old one, i took it for a drive and its not out of balance from what i can tell, and it made a small difference compared to the old one

All manuals have them as well as Wagons.
Its similar to a harmonic balancer. It takes on resonance and harmonics in the tailshaft. Same reason theres a metal weight on the end of the manual gearbox extension housing. Getting a Manual XR ally tailshaft is a pretty good score.

must take the vibration out at 240km/h....
wouldn't a standard au ally tailshaft fit an e series ? or are they a different length ? because the arrangement is the same (non-irs)

the xr6 ones in the e series xrs are ally aparently, i dont think the one i put on today was any different to a normal tailshaft except it didnt have this weight on it

That isn't quite right.....EA & EB1 never had the Harmonic balancer on the tailshafts.....although, they did have the rubber mounted weight hanging under the rear of the extension housing. I thought the EB2 XR6 had a steel tailshaft, as did the EB1 XR8.

My manual xr6 doesn't have a ally tailshaft unless it is dirty cos it looks like a rusty steel one , maybe its Been replaced with a steel tailshaft, I'll have to check it out ,

I think only EFII XRs/Fairmont Ghia and EL XRs/Fairmont Ghias had the Tickford goodies which had the alloy tailshaft, weights or no weights I'm not sure.
EFI XRs/Fairmont Ghias didn't have them from what I was told.
