after installing one on my ef ive noticed that the centre console and gear stick get rather hot like to hot to touch for more than 5 seconds. any one with a billet quickshift had this problem and how did you fix it

did you remove the rubber spacer between the shifter handle and the new shifter base.
i got this warm shifter issue when i terfed the rubber spacer (as it had some give in it and i hated that) |

Hi Guys
Would you be able to give some info of the actual benefits from fitting a quick shifter. I am after some driver feedback more than any propaganda from the makers. Cheers BenJ

yeah benJ. not real sure about any power gains but i find the shifting smoother and quicker hence the name. when its adjusted right it was too easy to pull 2nds and 3rds. it made driving a bit more exciting when snapping into gear. i also had my clutch adjusted so there is no free play when releasing the clutch pedal i think this probly made it feel a bit better

i had one in my eb, it was fantastic, got hot in summer though cos it was all metal, but shifts were sooooo much faster, i would never go back, pity i sold the car though, was great fun to drive!

i have only one complaint and that was that mine kept comming loose, i spoke to the owner of billet at the FM drag day, and silly me forgot thread locker, some loctite red and it hasnt budged
i found it will make the box a little bit notchy, but shift accuracy is so much easier, 2>3 feels almost straight up, great for the drags, and the twisties, money very well spent in my opinion. |

Had mine for a year, wouldnt be without it really.. 2nd to 3rd being almost straight is the major attraction but the shift quality overall is a lot nicer.
My basis for comparison is an Au XR 5spd which I still feel my dodgey EB box with the billet shifts better than. One thing to note is if yer syncros are worn you will be far more aware of it with a quick shifter.

I picked up an MGW (www.mgwltd.com) T5/45 unit from the states just before the dollar fell to pieces.
This one is a little different to all the others and claims to reduce cabin noise. I havent used a 'normal' short shifter so I can not judge, but I really do like the feel of this one. I cant say for sure how well it helps the 2nd -> 3rd shift as I think there are some issues with my box slowing down that gear change. They claim to have the quietest short shifter around. It still transfers a bit of noise to the cabin but that could also be from the excessive gearbox noise...haha. I'm using a momo wooden gear knob with mine so I cant tell you if it gets warm. |

BenJ - You'll fall in love with a quickshifter. Its that simple.
I've got a Steeda Ripshifter, with a shortened stick and a BA XR knob, which sits even lower again. i havent missed a gear once in over a year with it. the shifts are clean, precise, and about 11ty million times faster than a stock shifter. straight gate between 2-3 is mint. I dont know how you can drive a manual without one... One of the best 'driver' mods ever. |

I did mine out of the car, but I'm pretty sure you can put it on just by undoing the rear cross member and lowering the gearbox.
Yes, all T5 short shifters fit. |

yeah can be fitted with the box in car, just undo the box mount a bit and fiddle around getting the bolts on/off (your neighbors may learn some new words
)as for doing it up, i got a cool tip forgot who gave it, but drill two holes in the trans tunnel above the 2 front bolts on the shifter (from inside) makes doing the front bolts up tight very easy. p.s. dont forget loctite |
