after tonights cruise up smokie mountain, on my merry journey home i was driving rather slowly.... ah hell i was giving it a canning 1:00 cbd melb no cars :) , almost got home (last corner) gave it a slide and then my econ light started blinking on the dash, dash temp was just under the L of normal, when i stoped at home 10 mins ago, the thermo fans were on (VERY odd on my car)

what does this little symbol mean?

i assume gearbox troubles, low oil, or hot???

cheers,
Rushed

Indicates transmission sump temprature is too high (not related to engine/radiator temp) - (as above) check fluid level, service auto, fit oil cooler, revise driving habits..

thats def the car telling you the trans is too hot, do as Holbrookau saysn service it ASAP (as you have either emptied it or cooked the living crap out of the oil and its dead) and if you want to drive it like that still then fit a auto cooler up front of the rad.

i remember in the fbt if econ flashed it meant that it was in learning/adaptive mode - a good thing instead of this bad thing haha!

p.s. complety OT, std oil coolers are mounter in front of the aircon radiator, from mem there inline with the std radiator "trans cooling"

Yes rush, cpost on re: location and plumbing of the trans cooler.

Lol.. yeah, you cooked that transmission dude :) Get the oil changed ASAP. Of if you're converting to manual... now is the time to do it :)

Got a dippy on that tranny? Have a look and a whiff...

ok, gave it a drive (light) around the block, checked oil...

it was way over the full mark and thin, smelt like playdoe, so i assume the oil is shot.

so all funds are being diverted to the manual conversion :)

it should be right for light driving for a week or so right????

What colour was it? Tends to go brownish if its been cooked, compared to its usual strawberry red colour.

Going by your description of the odour... sounds pretty toasty :)

As for whether it's ok to drive... well, if the fluid level is ok - that's a good start.

The trans will be hating the burnt fluid, but then, those who dont notice such issues drive the things around for months with burnt fluid :)

You'll prob be fine, but obviously cant guarantee it...

Can tell when an auto isnt happy. If it slips, if the gear changes are too firm or too soft... then be very cautious. Keep an eye on the fluid level.
