was wandering if anyone can help me??

i got a EL and just put a set of 17inch rims on but i got told i needed bolt on hub spacers fitted on the front, just yesterday i turned a corner and herd a loud bang and found that 2 of the wheel nuts had snapped off the actual stud on the spacer does anyone have any ideas why this happen?? And also (this may seem obvious) but are they dangerous or illegal???.....Thanx! :)

they are very dangerous and illeal you luck your wheels did not fall off i had them on and had nothink but roblems with snapping studs,best thing to do i get some wheels with the rite offset

Adaptors = fail.

They are illegal because they suck a*** when it comes to supporting weight of a car. If you look at your hub you will notice a big spigot/center part where your wheel bearings go and the wheel fits over. This is the load bearing part of your hub. The studs purpose is to fasten the wheel to the hub itself, not support the weight of the car. Hub adaptors don't have this and thus all the car's weight is on the studs. It's a recipe for FAIL.

did you shave your studs? your original studs might be causing the clearance issues,
hub adaptors are not illegal in nsw.the nuts are counter sunk so you actually have more metal on the spigot than a stockie sorry to burst peoples internet theories
my car is insured with them on the policy with nrma at no extra cost
spacers are dangerous and illegal
beware cheap quality non billet products
beware deep dish rims , beware high profile tyres
i have put a 13" crack in an an 18"rim and i still use the same billets
and i give them ported and polished tickford powah through the 80km round abouts next to my house all the time
hub adaptors are the best
and are the easyiest way to get max rim size ,maximum track ,tyre width and tuck,
WITHOUT scrubbing and banging so i think they are much safer than an oversized rim

^^ some bad advice there.

Hub adaptors = fail....... doesnt matter if only 1 in 50 have a bad experience.

Either get rims suited for your car, or deal with it

Hub adapters are used on off road trucks that do massive jumps. But like anything people can make mistakes with them. Do we outlaw motors, brakes and suspension because people can make mistakes with them? No.

I hazard a guess that if hub adapters weren't illegal (assuming that is true) there would be even fewer problems with them. Being sold over the counter rather than under it would bring more scrutiny of the products and better information and instructions on how to use them properly.

i agree, if they were made to certain standard, there would be alot less occurence of the problems weve seen

Alot of the problems with hub adaptors occur because some of the ones on ebay are designed for jap cars and hence use metric threads on the studs.
Doesn't work so well with imperial threaded wheel nuts ;)

Good quality ones are ok, i have 35mm ones on my drift car.

They have to be good quality, and yeah make sure you are getting the right thread.

Just remember that they do put a little more stress on studs, but i've never had one snap.

Only done about 10,000 k's.

I recall reading in an earlier fordmods thread someone saying they bought hub adapters for their falcon but they came with commodore wheel studs, and therefore required commodore wheel nuts. But falcon wheel nuts were fitted . . . and poop, off came a wheel.

If this is true in my opinion that is inappropriate behaviour by the manufacturer and retailer, even if they gave full instructions and commodore wheel nuts. Just think, if the car was put into a workshop, someone could accidentally fit falcon wheel nuts, and poop.
