for the tidy sum of $400, as the motors basically f**k, but still goes ok.
its a shame to see a car you once loved and took so much care of in a state like what this was in when i picked it up today it took over 5 minutes of cranking to start it (had to start it on LPG as the fuel pumps f**k), then sounded like a race car with a massive lumpy cam as it finally fired enough to run... also the exhaust was in 4 pieces from the cat back but anyway, as my Ghia's off the road for the time being, i need to use this as a daily commuter which means taking the f**king diff lock out that the previous owner had put in there... so, my question for this section is: how does one disassemble a diff in an EA? its a Borg Warner 2.92 ratio if that helps... its a bit of a noob question, but im not that familiar with diffs and gearboxes as of yet. also, will a tail pipe with a 2 1/4'' diameter fit properly into the 2 1/2'' muffler properly ie. be able to stay in there without leaking, if i bend the joiner onto it? thanks in advance guys.

Yes best thing is to get a manual for it. You have to pull off the watts link of the diff dover, then pull the diff cover. Probably should replace the gasket while your there.
The back wheels need to come off, as do the brakes, you need to pull the axles out a bit to get the centre out of the diff housing. A workshop manual is your friend.

or the easy option is get a complete ea or eb diff and bolt the whole thing in,as for your muffler buy a tube of muffler putty and a clamp, should fix your problem,
good luck stephen

so roughly, how long would it take the average person to pull the diff out and put it back together?
just need a rough time frame so i know how long to ask my mechanic friend to borrow the hoist for. also... can i re-use the diff oil? i cant afford new oil at the moment

To remove a diff completely from the car, assuming all bolts are not stuck in there due to age/rust/what not, one day to maybe 3 days depending how skillful you are with tools, if you have all the tools needed. I say give it at least 2 days if you are still learning how to remove it, because you never know what you might need or if something breaks etc. Always give yourself more time then needed. I gave myself a weekend to pull my engine out and put another in...took me 5 days instead because I was missing parts and some broke along the way with shops closed and all mayhem. phong =P~ EDIT: I also miss my EA...too bad it has been crushed, recycled and probably now holding some beetroot in a tin can.
