 Post subject: bracket on bottom oft5 extension housing needed?

i took my gearbox out to change the clutch and gaskets and there is a large mount on the bottom of the extension housing that is held oin by 3 small bolts. it doesnt appear to serve any purpose at all so can i just take it off or does it actualy do something?

Exhaust mounting, not needed if its not conected to your exhaust.

I think he may be meaning the damper that sits under the rear extn housing (3 x 10 mm bolts).
Leave it fitted.

yer it seems to be fitted with rubber between two big blocks of metal. what does it do? i had a look at the gregories manual and it has a pic of the t5 but doesnt hav this thing on it

Yes that is the damper, it adds a bit of isolated mass to the box to reduce high frequency vibration, not essential but worth keeping on a road car.
