i put a new set of Au injectors in a little while ago and the first thing that happened was the plastic melted off the accelerator cable.
Yesterday i filled the car with 40L of e10 for s**t and giggles and then drove it at high way speeds for 120K's. i then washed the car several hours later. thismorning the car starts and really starts to back out of the drive faster than usual so i go for the brake. thing is rock solid. i have a crack (looks clean) in the booster that goes down at about the 5oclock position. two questions about it. would heat from the extractors have cracked/warped/melted it? would the ethanol make the exhaust a little hotter and do it? (i doubt it) and how much is it going to sting me (roughly) to get fixed? Cheers guys

I have seen this before on an EF, and it had no extractors. Just age and repeated heat cycles. The funny thing that one split at the 5 o'clock position too. I was lucky enough to hear it go bang, but at first did not know what it was, till I drove it later.

happend to me a little while ago while driving..only happend after i fitted my extractors about 2 months later..

it seems to have become a common thing on ef/el's with the age of the car and the heat over time then adding extractors they just dont like the extra heat and fail..

hmm, makes me think more and more i have a fuel supply problem.
is there anyway to shield the parts? heat wrap? something like that?

my ef busted one about a year ago...had 300,000 on the clock..no extractors
cant say it was cracked...didnt look but it was leaking as i could hear a constant sucking and the brakes were rock hard

Do you have any heat shielding on your extractors? This is what the issue was with mine. If the EF/EL heatshield does not fit over the extractors, you have to either get an AU one (these are bigger, but not by much) or if that is not big enough, look at getting one of the aftermarket stainless ones. yep, mine one broke at about 5 oclock, !! $55 for another one at the local wreckers.
it looks like a peice of cake that someone took a slice out off!

here is my old one .. it cracked after towing my 32ft van caravan.
im running a ED one instead now .. because its metal .. had to make a few mods to it,

cool, so heats doing it. would a bit of race tape all the way around be a Q&D fix to prevent it you think?
i may just have to bite the bullet and fine one of those aftermarket stainless jobs if something s**t itself again very VERY concerned this will happen one day in traffic or something

yeah, they fit, just need to angle grind a little of the front.

The steel one's have slightly less distance between the bolts that hold on the master cylinder. So you might choose to elongate inwards the holes in the master cylinder's aluminium bracket.
For the plastic one's, heat shielding seems a sensible alternative (and maybe also a steel band/clamp around the outside?).

so i get it fixed today.
brake (and exhaust place) $110 all up, not too bad really. ask the guy - did you check the rest of the system? "no' (um ok) why did this happen "stress and wear and tear" (um ok) could it have anything to do with the heat? "No, exhaust is no where near it" (even though i have unshelded extractors?) "no so anyway i drive 5k's back to work and pop the bonnet, drivers side of the booster is ok, the engine side burns MY f**k HAND. there is no way that guy has a f**k clue about the sort of heat put out by these things.
