Here's some pics of what happens when you don't change brake fluid. It only ever got topped up when brake pads were replaced. I had to rebuild all 4 of them today. On level ground, it was really hard to push the car, they were dragging that bad. Its an ED sedan.
Now its all back together, it goes a lot better.

If you are going to change the brake fluid, then use fluid of a different colour, then you can see the change easily.Always start with left rear, then right, then front left, and finally front right.

Just using new fluid will make you see the difference in colour.
Syphon the master cyl reservoir to the bottom and fill with new fluid before bleeding.

A thing with new fluid in an old scum filled system, is the new fluid will lift the scum & scale from the old fluid, and will need changing again soon after, about 3mths. The brake fluid we're using at work at the momment is Wurth DOT 4. It smells just like Uzo. Its almost clear. Here is a pic after cleaning the b/m/cyl res, of the brake fluid.

It wouldn't surprise me if you'd found the holes in the tapered ends of the bleeders were most likely scaled up as well.
