Hi
Topped up brake fluid once in the ef Ford and when replacing the cruise control actuator and cable found levels gone 1/2 way down. Don't have to top it up every day maybe every month to 6 weeks. Can't find a obvious leek at the master cylinder. When unplugging The cruise control switch there's brake fluid in the plug itself. Would that be where a leek is. Have another master cylinder and don't know if there's a switch still in it or not |

Have heard of fluid leaking through the switch before, so could be the cause. There is a lot of pressure there. Clean it with brake cleaner spray and let it dry, then watch the switch as someone stands on your brake pedal (engine running). If it's leaking that much through the switch, you should see drops of fluid forming on the outside. Be aware that if brake fluid leaks onto paint, it will strip it.

How many km have you done since it was topped up?
Remember as the brake pads wear the piston in the caliper sits further out making the fluid level drop.

about 500 km to 1000 km maybe more didnt take any notice on kms
yeah probably need new pads soonish and when the switch under the master cylinder is unpluged last there was brake fluid in it, otherwise theres no obvious leeks around master cylinder and also cruise control is fixed but doesnt always set straight away sometimes takes a couple gos to get it to set but once its set its ok, so was thinking the switch under the master cylinder may be why |

My cruise switch was leaking earlier this year. You can buy then for 45 bucks or so on ebay, I just put a screw to block the hole in mine to stop it leaking since my cruise doesn't work anyway. Cheap fix.

You'll see fluid directly below the cruise or brake fail switches if they've leaked, or the wire looms will be soggy.
Make sure all the caliper bleeders are clean - use some metho. I've seen a few leak even when they're done up. Check them from time to time, if your getting brake fluid drops forming, then replace the bleeder, overtightening will strip threads, adding to the problem. Also check your brakelines, particularly around junctions, distribution blocks, joins, etc. Caliper pistons not leaking ??

Had car for 3 months topped up brake fluid filled resivor about a month ago and now is about half full
Brakes still work. Would a soggy plug for switch under master cylinder or brake pads have anything to do with it. Also cruise control sometimes takes a few gos to get it to set but once set it works. Would the soggy switch and plug under master cylinder have anything to do with it |
