While driving earlier tonight, I noticed a loud grinding noise when i came into a carpark. I thought something was stuck under the car, so I had a look but nothing turned. It seems to happen at slow speeds and when braking. Sounds like a worn pad grinding metal on metal, but the pads aren't that old and I didn't notice any buildup in the noise. Just went loud all of a sudden. Anyone heard of this before? Something stuck in the brake pad, maybe? I tried to check it but the last place that took the tyre off did up one of the nuts too tight to undo.
And while i'm here - the car also makes a noise while rolling at slow speeds, similar to a train noise! I haven't had the diff oil changed before since i bought it, so could it be that? Thanks guys

possibly could have a chunk of gravel stuck between your brake pad and the disc.
id change the diff oil too if it hasnt been done since u got it lol

How long ago did you cheak brake pads?
sounds like possible air in the brake line one brake doing more work than the others. It is normal to hear a train like noise from worn pads and slightly worped rotars. |

easiest way to identify where it is coming from is to pull the handbrake on at slow speed enough to slow the car (not skid) and listen to see if the noise is more noticeable, if it is then its rear brake pads... then try it again but using the foot brake if the noise sounds louder than its the front brake pads. it would have to be one amazing piece of gravel to get in there if that is the problem, either that or there is chunks out of your pads big enough for one to get in there.

Maybe you have the new steam (coal fire) conversion fitted to your car?
I've heard its cheaper then gas?

i had that happen to me on a cruize a few years back, twice in the same day  small rock inbetween calipar and disc and there were no chunks missing from my pads as they were new at the time, was the smallest of bits of rock but hell did it make a noise when i tried to move the car and funny thing was that both times the rock must have got stuck in there just before i stoped coz the noise wasnt there when i stoped but both times i drove off from being parked for a while the noise was there in the first few meters, to say the least i wasnt real happy

Found out it was a seized caliper. Getting the diff oil changed for free with a new brake setup. Driving the backup Getz for now
