gday,
as soon as i turn my car to "on" the brake light fuse blows straight away, and i cant figure out why. ive checked the globes themselves, for moisture, broken wiring in the boot, continuity from the LHS light to the parcel shelf and also for RHS, no broken wireing there. Checked continuity from fuse holder to the brake light switch, no broken wiring. What else could be causing this? I cant drive around much longer with no brake lights!

switch is probably shorting to the pedal.
try manually shorting the pins (unpluged from switch) to see if the lights work or fuse blows. if lights go... then Bobs ur Happy! If you have cruise, unplug it from the engine bay, it might be shorting also.

mine was blowing cause of the connection to the rear spoiler. if you have one, check the connection to that!

if u unplug the stop lamp switch does it still happen?
if it does, the short has to be between the fuse box and the wiring to the stop lamp switch, or in the cruise control wiring.. hope this is of some help |

when the stop light switch is unplugged it still shorts. Where do the wires run? I dont quite know what to look for now, i've tried to trace where the wires go but cant seem to find any shorts.
basically with the cruise main plug unplugged from the unit, the deactivation switch unplugged and the stop light switch unplugged it still shorts. i can see from the stop switch that one wire runs to a bridged plug (i assume thats for a clutch deactivation switch for cruise) then theres 1 that runs up into the dash, cant figure out where it goes after that, and another runs through the firewall which i assume is to the brake deactivation switch for cruise. someone help, im going f**k insane here.

How about the High rise brake light? when i bought my car the actual glass blew off and the plastic holder had melted leaving the wiring harness coming close to the chassis to the parcel shelf with exposed filaments.

without the stop lamp switch no power flows anywhere near the lights at the rear of the car, so the short has to be before the stop light switch..
i dont have a wiring diagram in front of me so im sorry i cant help u |

The short could be anywhere in the curcuit as the switch only completes it to ground.
