It's time to replace the brake pads on the beast, and I'd appreciate the benefit of your experiences. What I'm looking for (in order of importance) is:
- low dust - good initial bite - good heat/fade resistance - easy on rotors - reasonable price - long life Of course, I want it all I have been running EBC Redstuff (front) and Greenstuff (rear), but they are expensive, have less initial bite than I would like, and appear to wear the rotors a bit. I am using greens on the back because they are higher friction and help the rears do more of the braking for better brake balance and higher total stopping power. I am running DBA grooved rotors. I have looked at Endless pads, but they are hideously expensive. The longer the pad lasts, the more I'm prepared to pay. Thanks for any advice you can give.

The only way to have good brakes is to have soft rotors, and soft pads....Look at German made stuff, BMW, Merc's, Audi's, VW's, etc.....all have that.
Have you tried Bendix?....Ultimates?, Taxi?

Hey mate!
I have been running kevlar pads in my last two falcons and they are great! Below is a link! Check 'em out! http://cgi.ebay.com.au/FALCON-EF-EL-AU- ... 5ad1c0be82 |

Hey 4dlvr,
Thanks for that. I can find Bendix Ultimate and Bendix Street Road Track, but not Advanced. Where did you get them? What are they like? And do they produce much dust? Thanks

I went from std rotors and std bendix pads to slotted rotors and bendix ultimates, much better braking all round. I havent found them to be too dusty, if you wash your car twice a month I doubt you'd be able to notice much dust.

the only issues ive found with the bendix ultimates is there seems to be more disc wear with them..
the problem is the higher the performance of the pads, the harder the compound is which will give more wear on the discs |

Has anyone out there tried QFM HPX pads? They sound like what I am looking for. Don't know if I can even get them here in NZ.

Ultimate pads are some what much dustier as well...then again I don't clean my car very often so rims are covered with brake dust.

I like my DBA slotted rotor with Bendix Ultimate pad
I wonder why any motor mag has not done a comparison of rotors and pads for wear to find the right combo or balance for ur purpose.

I had DBA slotted and Bendix ultimates on my XF, they were great, lasted a good while and werent overly dusty. They handled laps at calder no problems, no fade that I noticed.
When I need to replace pads/rotors in the EL I will be getting the same gear. |

as in my recent post, i think im running bendix ultimates. had the rotors warp twice now with no particular cause. they seemed to be fine, then out of no where a shudder develops.
Just my experience. i know some brake & clutch places dont like bendix too much

An update.
Ended up buying QFM HPX pads. Had them sent over from GSL Rallysport in Queensland (a big thanks, Greg). They are the best pads I have used. Miles better than the EBC Redstuff and Greenstuff, and produce no visible dust, as far as I can tell. Initial bite is excellent - they don't need heat to work. They appear to be easier on rotors than EBC. With EBC, my DBA slotted rotors wore at a typical rate, leaving a significant lip on the edge, and quite a rough surface on the face. The HPXs appear to be polishing the rotors, making them smooth and shiny. It's too early to say how well the pads are wearing. But the pad and rotor surfaces are not completely mated even after two months, so neither one can be wearing very quickly. I can't comment on fade or suitability for track use, as I haven't pushed them that hard yet. And even with the trans-Tasman freight cost, they are much cheaper than the EBCs. Curiously, the rear pads are actually larger than the EBCs - 4mm longer and wider - contacting more of the rotor. I just bought an AU2 XR6 VCT, and it came with brand new rotors and Bendix General CT pads all round. The braking felt weak, so I put a set of HPXs on. Wow! What a difference - night and day! At a guess, I would say the stopping distance decreased by 30%. With the AU2's twin-piston front calipers, the HPXs stop even better than on my EF. I am totally happy with the QFM HPXs. They should be mandatory safety equipment. They tick all the boxes I am looking for.
