don't overtighten them though - only go to their rated Nm.. but yeah normall just the fronts will suffice!

well is it brake shudder? or is it unballanced front wheels?
if the vibration is through the steering wheel = unballanced wheels ( and yes can happen when braking ) if through brake pedal it is brake shudder

Brake shudder can be felt through the steering wheel as well as the brake pedal.

Yep it shakes when the brakes are applied. Went down to get them machined and the guy said the front rotors are stuffed and the rears aern't to far behind.
So he quoted me $600 odd to get them all replaced with RDA rotors. I asked him how much labour was and he said $45 a wheel, does that sound right for fitting new rotors? He said it would take about an hour. Now im not going to pay that because i emailed Cam from HIGHTEK Brakes and he said RDA standard rotors are $55ea/fronts and $49.50ea/rears, so thats only $210 + labour. Just need to find somewhere decently priced to fit them for me, i havnt done anything like this before so not confident doing it myself Also he said my brake pads are 80% front/30% rear, is it worth replacing the rear pads while im at it, or do rear pads take ages to wear down.

600 is hugely steep. |

Yeah thats what i thought, no way im gonna pay that.
So does anyone know roughly what i should be paying labour wise to get 4 rotors and the back pads changed if i supply them?

Yeah easy to do the rears but if you have no real knowledge on cars the front wheel bearings may be a hassle, now the bearings should be replaced seeing the new rotors have new outer cones fitted. you could cut corners and not replace them but worth it while they are off.

What do the wheel bearings do, consequences of not replacing them? and how much?

wheel bearings go between the disk/road wheel and the stub axle of the car. If they fail the wheel can fall off altho this is worst case. if theyre loose they can cause the wheel to wobble and have no grip, and they also get noisy etc. iirc they arent the expensive either so well worth replacing

Well i got my discs + pads from HIGHTEK today, good blokes and very good price compared to what other people tried to get me to pay.
Paid $90 to get the front discs fitted and wheel bearings checked (were fine) greased and repacked from my mechanic. Then soon i will tackle the rear discs and brake pads myself

Yeah my friend who is a ford nut says the brakes on the falcons are really bad. Hes replacing the brakes with the brembo brake package for his BA.
As for my EF i get the same thing so im pretty sure its just the disks. Im going to go with the DBA slotted. I dont think i can afford the drilled. They are easy to replace ive done it before and im only 16. LOL. As they said before DONT cut corners and make sure you do everything by the book.

Don't think that will fix the Ford brake shudder. Put brand new DBA rotors slotted , new bearings (re checked after 1000KM), new pads , calipers rebuilt.15,000KM down the track and the old brake shudder is back. I give up!!!!! Replaced stub axles with new top and bottom ball joints. New rack and pinoin fitted with new tie rod ends. New front shocks Castor kit installed and wheel alignment done. Wheel alignment re checked after 1 week. Got the "newish" rotors re machined and new brake pads fitted.(bendix CT) All good but another 18,000KM and shudder has returned. I really are questioning the quality of DBA rotors now! Mabey RDA or PBR I might have better luck with. If anyone has an answer please advise. OH and my wife drives the car with the kids in it and doesn't treat the brakes like a race car. Cheers Dazza |
