last I checked new discs were almost the same price as geting them machined, the bloke might of been a rip off though, id put new pads on if your replacing/machining the rotors,

Always a good idea to replace the pads with machined/replaced rotors.

Shouldn't cost you more than $60 for both. Any more then just walk away. I had horrid shudder in my SXR8 and a skim fixed it(along with new pads...). Don't bother if they are cross-drilled as it is a bling factor and, unless you are racing your car, not worth the premium disc suppliers charge you for them. Pads are another issue as they need to be changed if your disc's are warped - they will wear the pads unevenly and, in turn, transfer the uneven wear surface to your newly skimmed disc's.
Bed them in sensibly(ask your brake pad supplier)and you will have trouble free motoring. Mine have 10,000km on them now with no return of the shuddering(EB's are notorious for it...). Pads are dustless and made by Quentin Hazell I think. Make sure you clean them well as the bearing shell is still in there(bearings had only 1000km when I decided to get the skim done)and degrease the disc surface before driving off. Hooroo |

There's no way I'd be replacing them if there's enough meat left on them for a grind

Well i've always used Bendix, had Bendix General CT's on last year but they don't work with slotted rotors. Now using Bendix Heavy Duty.
IIRC General CT's were ~$70 the Heavy Dutys were ~$100 These prices of course are for a BA. Heavy duty = too much dust
