Hi everyone,
I’ve just spend considerable time searching about a btr plastic connector leak, to find nothing at all. The transmission is leaking from the large round solenoid connector on the passenger side of the car can this be removed & replaced easily ? I assume there is a seal that is replaceable? Any tranny experts shed some light on this leak? Can’t seem to reconnect it either as it just pushes into the transmission, but is obviously held by something to stop it falling in completely. Very frustrated with the thing, trying to do from jack stands on the floor. Leaks badly, especially when pushed in, loses litres in a matter of days. Anyone shed light on this, plenty of info about a mechatronics sleeve on a zf, but nothing on a btr connector, even the PDF of the transmission never mentions a potential leak from here, or anything about the connector except it being a solenoid connector. Any info much appreciated !

If it IS coming from that connector and not from behind the Neutral Switch? Then, you would have to replace the harness.

Thank you for your reply, it’s 100% coming from the outside of harness connector, it’s like it’s not seated correctly in the transmission allowing it to leak.
Should you be able to just push the connector further inside the transmission & it be able to rotate , or should it be firm? It looks like from the schematic I would have to disassemble half the auto to replace it, I wonder if I could do anything on the outside of the box to seal it. Either way looks like a nightmare leak ! |

It should be firm and not rotate, i will double check this later as have a trans sitting on the ground. is should also not push in any further, it should be held in by little plastic spring lugs. Either way looks like a nightmare leak ! Yep to get the one i pulled today out required valve body and a few other bits off the inside of the trans out the way. Oil safe RTV sealant around the outside of the connector to seal it from the outside maybe?

I had a feeling that it shouldn’t be able to move around & push into the transmission. Even if I seal it from the outside I’m unsure if I will be able to reconnect the plug without it pushing too far back in the transmission. Do you know if there is a certain way that it sits in the transmission, I was thinking of getting some pliers to try to pull it out the connector further in the hope it will somehow lock into place, there appears to be an indent in the bottom of the transmission at the 6 o’clock position where the connector is, any idea of its purpose? This shouldn’t be able to happen & to have to pull apart everything to re-seat it or replace it is a crazy design. Would be great if you could check your transmission to see how it’s seated in & if it does move or is solid. |

I would of thought a month was been patient especially when the car is off the road because of this annoying leak.
I will use pliers on the plastic & try to engage it in place without breaking it. Otherwise it looks like it will need another auto, or someone who may have the connector from a stuffed auto. Can’t believe no one else has had this issue. |

Not a problem at all!
I just moved it to the direction in your diagram and pulled it out with pliers & the leak stopped right away and popped out further & it is firm. I added litres of fluid with the engine running to get it to the correct level. The only issue now is I can’t seem to get the round harness connector to connect to the transmission connector properly, I push it on hard and it feels like it’s home but can just be pulled right off easily. Is there a certain way to attach the harness to the transmission connector? Thanks again Robert ! |

Does anyone know how this plug connects to the loom, as it was months since it was disconnected I can’t remember how it was removed.

Has anyone else had any experience with how the connector plugs in ? Does it twist on or is there a special way of getting it on. It certainly doesn’t appear to just push on & without it plugged in properly it only has reverse & limp home mode.

Ill double check but i'm sure they only push on as the plug is keyed, and should sort of click on, you my have to push fairly hard to get it to lock on to its mating plug just had a play with a spare loom and plug to confirm this. Might be worth a spray of contact cleaner in the plugs to clean the contacts. Have you had a scan tool on it to check the fault codes? Mate was playing with one of his cars and was getting trans problems and worked out to be the plug not clipped properly pushing it on firm fixed the problem until he messed with it again. apologies i meant to get back to you few weeks ago again regarding this
