Hey crew,
In the quest to get my twin cam engine conversion off the ground (quite literally), i need to get the ECU side of things sorted, this being the hardest part to overcome i have discovered. What i need to know is what input singnals the transmission needs to operate correctly. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Cheers - Matt |

Obvious inputs would be from:
1) TPS 2) Car speed 3) Engine temperature Does anyone know of any other inputs needed for the transmission to operate correctly? |

im not sure if it helps, mine is a 95le in a v8 (seperate trans control)
im running an aftermarket computer but the trans computer still has its tps sensor and knows car speed.. & obviously neutral safety switch (ive still got engine temp hooked to the dash, not sure if this ends up at the trans controller tho) mine shifts just as it always has, so i assume thats all it needs to run. i would assume to get it to run properly in a 6cyl you would either need to piggy back the stock ecu to the aftermarket, leaving the stocker to control the trans or possibly get hold of a v8 or even an early EA tcm? -mitch

Thank's Mitch, that was another thing that was mentioned to me, to use a seperate V8 transmission controller, but i still need to run the factory ECU to run the instrument cluster and everything else associated.
I want to be able to 'piggyback' an EMS 6806 in tandem with the factory ECU, but i want to be able to help the tuning shop [just in case] they're not sure on what signals are required for the transmission to operate. |

EMS should be able to tell you what it needs to run the engine find those wires and run them to the ecu leave teh rest alone as that will then allow the ecu to run the dash OR for something way cool rip out the dash and make a custom one with VDO/autometer guages

Have you guys thought about running an XG or EB/D Series Dash? - same instrumentation, but no requirement at all for anything from the ECU. Uses the same speed and temp senders as well.

Nigel Urgh! And replace my nice shiny flashy LTD cluster? No way! HAHA |

Theres very little reason why you couldnt redesign the EB one to look more like the EF one.
It was just an answer to the problem of running all those instruments. How about using the EB gauges (the dial drivers etc) with an EF Cluster |

Don't worry - I thought the same thing initially. Only thing is on further thinking is that the climate control and trip computer would need to be retrofitted with EB/ED items, as the EF/EL ones get data from the ECU.
IIRC, EMS doesn't provide compatible data in it's own right ?? (Someone correct me ??)
