G'day

I have a NL fairlane sitting on SuperLows... Shorten shocks and yeah...

Up in the hill there is a few Bumpy roads... And i only have about 2inch of travel IF that...

At the moment i have a Rub mark of two on my Tailshaft, from... Ummm... "Kissing" the underneath on my car.

I want to "Cut" down the bump stops a little, just so i get that Little bit more travel, Hoping that than it wont hit the stops as much after that. And all in all be a better ride.

Cheers for any help

Parker

Dont cut the bump stops as you will damage the shocks and drive shaft will hit the floor more. Being a Fairlane i would have used Heavy Duty super lows on the rear bieng more weight in the lane. I would also wheck the rear upper and lower trailing arm bushes for wear as they can if worn allow the diff to pull up more on the front allowing the driveshaft to hit the floor.

being an NL the top mounts on the diff should have tilt ajustment (3 holes) the tilt can be adjusted by changing the position of the top arm into another hole...

Changing the position to one of the other 2 holes on the diff (if fitted) will change the pinion angle too much. The only way to use the other mount holes is to use the longer upper trailing arms but in this case it isnt the problem.

so garenteed that when the car was lowered that the tilt angle was not altered to suit the new height, and as for longer upper trailing arms they do not exist...hence for the need for the adjustment holes...

Upper trailing arms come in 2 lengths (320mm and 350mm) The EF and XR use the 350mm and EL use 320. By simply changing the position on either the top centre or the rear hole with the 320mm arms it will give the driveline an excessive pinion angle of about 20deg (max pinion angle 4deg) So basically it simply is not recommended. The only way to use the rear mounting hole on the diff is to use the XR type trailing arms which in this case wont help. I know because i have used both types on me EL.

Its not a matter of winning its a matter of giving correct advice that will not make the car unsafe.
