i just put short stroke shocks in my ea and i have noticed compared to the ef the bump stops are at least twice the size than the ef and teh ea ones are brittle and cracking and the ef ones are small harder and looks like teh hsock could travel a bit more, could i wreck my shocks by useing my original ea bump stops or is it ok

When I put short stroke shocks in the back on my EB, I cut the supplied bumpstop rubber in half as it was sooooooo big.

No probs so far, and have been on some pretty rough roads etc. Has been like that for almost a year.

bump stops are designed to limit the travel of suspension components. Shaving/cutting/changing to other than OE allows for components to operate outside their indended specification.

Not saying it will def happen but usually when a component operates outside its specification it is prone to failure. Driven normally probably wont be a problem but that's no guarantee. I have seen suspension from rally bred vehicles ie Lancers that have suffered from suspension failure due to suspension components riding on bump stops or because they have been removed.

Yeah I figured that when you asked the question. Too many young people ie 17 to 25 that think they can make mods to cars without seeing through the full implications. Have you matched the springs with the shocks? You just can't replace one component of a system and hope to hell it will work.

If you don't understand what bump stops do then you should not be modifying your car. Ford didn't just sit round a table with a box of doughnuts and pluck a random size bump stop for the hell of it.

If you have modified the rest of your suspension then the bump stops should be considered. If you have standard suspension then the bump stops should be fitted with the ones that were originally fitted to the vehicle.

Think of the bigger picture ie insurance. Do you think your insurance company would cover you or your car if you had a crash.

If you are in doubt contact a reputable suspension specialist and seek their advice. Also double check with your local authority to make sure your modification remains within the ADR.

Again my 5 cents worth but then again I deal with cars like yours everyday and ensure they never drive on our roads.

my car is fine for the roads i was just wondering because i have short strut shocks do i need to put different bump stops in with them (which does not lower the car any more or eitha make it detectable i just noticed with our ef the bump stops are half the size of the ea bump stops out of the factory

well you said you have seen cars f**k up there suspension if they are riding on bump stops
how can i tell if my car is running on the bump stops?
my car is lowered and i noticed with the stock shocks and the car jacked up by the diff it was sitting on the bump stops but with the short stroke shocks it does not sit on them but god knows if it does or not with a heavy load or over big bumps
if it does sit on the bump stops occasionally will it f**k up my shockers?
