This is a picture of my DBA slotted rotors. They shudder violently under heavy braking from high speeds. There is no shudder at low speeds.
The Pads are Bendix General CTs which Bevics recommended to me. Thanks a lot!

Now reading online I have the worst combination of rotor/pads fr my BA.

I think I can still get another machining out of these rotors. So just wondering which pads to buy.
As reading the other posts everyone's got a different idea.

Greenstuffs are a good pad. You don't want anything too hard to chew up/warp the rotors. I prefer changing pads more often..

DBA and Bendix Ultimate are a good combo (on the EL anyway). Bendix Ultimate may have braking squeals at slow speeds and eat the disc faster...but you can stop better :D.

Hi guys,

What you are seeing here is friction material deposits. The dark spots on the back of the slots you can see is excessive pad material buildup which causes a high spot on the rotor. As the pad passes over this high spot it will 'pickup' and release in the low just past the buildup. This will create a 'grab-release' type effect, hence the shudder.

Friction material deposits are most common in cars that run either a slotted or cross-drilled rotor and a general everyday pad such as the GCT that has been fitted here. To combat this we suggest running a high spec pad ie. a Bendix Heavy Duty (HD) or equivalent in another manufactuer of pad. The compound of the friction material is slightly different and uses less bonding resin to hold the compound together.

Now as for what to do with these rotors, just changing pads won't solve it. Depending on how close to min. thickness the rotors are you may be able to have them lightly skimmed to clean up the friction faces.

Contact Race Brakes in Yarraville. I'm pretty sure they have their RB24 compound in standard B-series pads now. Excellent pad. Low dust, very grippy, doesnt eat discs and is pretty reasonably priced.

In my case, Brembo's aside, Phong can give you a good indication of how well they work when pushed. :lol:

There's a lot of nice rural straights in Skye. beautiful field of view for late braking when you're approaching intersections at speed. :lol:

I don't agree with the other bloke about the green stuff. they are not that great. the problem I find with them is the amount of black dusty slit it leaves on the mags. I think they are design for long trips where you use less braking. :lol:

I have used lots of pad rotor combos and ive found that Bendix Heavy Duty pads and EBC Greenstuff are about the best around. EBC being the better choice for performance, but if your an insane driver try EBC Yellow stuff.

To be honest, my rotors warp every 2-3 months, and i just get the front rotors skimmed for 30 bux at ABS Brakes and re-use the old pads. I have a spare set sitting there waiting for when they warp and just swap them over when they get too bad, then get the old ones skimmed and the cycle begins again. I wasted thousands on my AU trying to find a brake combo that would cause no warp til i gave up and now i do this method. Its saved me god knows how much. Its just Ford Falcons for ya mate.

Honestly, I'm thinking if you drive the car that hard that you warp rotors every 2 or 3 months, you need to upgrade your brakes to something decent... Either the premo brakes or Brembo's...

Or have a good read on AFF on Steve and Dazzler's post regarding bushes, rotors and warp/shudder on B-series.

I drive my car pretty bloody hard, and in 20 months of ownership, not a hint of shudder

agree!
If you're a hard driver you're better off upgrading. you're worse off replacing pads and getting the rotors machined every 2 to 3 months if you have been doing the same thing over and over again for the duration of owning the car. it's silly and it's a waste of money!

Think of the safety aspect when it fails on you one day on those spirited drives....

I can vouch for the hard driving...and those brakes are definitely awesome :D. Hill run = fun times haha
