I would go for shims as once they are set they dont move. I guess the ratchet type is only good if your the one doing the alignment!

Kmac, cos no matter what u have ie real off being not straight the kmac will fix, also if u lower, keep or raise ur springs kmac is a much way better to go, cos you can always change the camber, tow in etc.
Also i dont think its heaps different, i payed 400 (melbourne) for the kmac without labour or wheel alignment costs.

What other people say advantages and disadvantages of the kmac and shims.

Kmac make some great stuff but their Falcon kits sieze and are pricks to work with. I have fitted god knows how many shim kits over the years had no problems with them.

allright get this.. my old man and i fitted the kmac kit to my car (saves some money) and it was easy to fit on (2 people made it easy).. then went down to get wheel alignment place and everything was all cool and the tyres are perfect wear, that was last year july. This year my folks ef falcon needed a kit/shims cos the tyres wore on the outsides, so we bought new tyres and we bought another kit and fitted it ourselfs again, took it to wheel alignment place, and everything all cool and the wheels are weared out evenly, cant really tell yet but the kit has been on for 1 month or so.
I say this cos a while ago back in 99 when the ef was 3 years old about 55,000 and needed an allignment (not yet kit or shims) beaurepairs around the western suburbs done a real s**t job of allignment and by a month, we saw wear and the steering wasnt straight and it was so bad that u can see the wheel turn deeply into one side. some people, care about the money not job.

With the 400 i think it was more like late 300's not yet 400. cos 400 doesn't sound right to me.

your a very capital sort of person arnt you :)

oh yes and i recon go the kmac, i have shims in my car and pretty sure im goin to need some more soon enough... my front end is kaput, the arms bend from the rough road on the way to work from the trucks and train tracks and theres some f**k up sewer drains on the way...

go the kmac, or find out about the other camber kits, a mate of mine jsut bought some other brand which is further adjustable and its cheaper... got it from autobarn, not sure if they make them for e series fords but

mm ok cool cool ill go the kmac. its not that much more expensive..

also, the dude at the suspension joint said theres more adjustment range in the ratchet kit than the shim kit.

tho im actually going back up to kings lows springs to get the xr(/slightly lower than xr) ride height back..

Are all shim types nolathane or is there several different shim types?
I've been quoted $350 for the nolthane fitted and I've been told that they don't move like the ratchet style. Has any one had any problems with them before?
And is the nolathane one actually any good compared to the standard (if there is different types of shim kits)?

nolathane, super pro, pedders, noltec are the ones i know that do shim type kits.
there around $80 a side plus fitting and wheel allignment, or $350 for the peddes item drive in out.

the shim type should give you more than enough adjustment, remember it also depends on who does the allignement.

I paid $112 for a set of Noltect shim type camber kit (fitted myself) another $40 for the alignment. Not that hard to change apart from the passanger side as the nuts are way under the intake!

I go with shims. I've had 3 cars (EF/ELs) lowered and went with shims everytime because a couple of the suspension places said the ratchet type tend to shift a little.

My EL XR8 has shims and its all good. Still adjustable.

well iv had the shim type camber kit in my car since the 30th of the 6th this year (just over a month ago) and well my left is out a mile looks like the wheel is about to snap off so now im goin to have to save a bit of money an get a new camber kit, if noltec fit ill be gettin one of them cos they ahve more adjustment. (if they fit that is)
