Very simply I am probably purchasing a BA Falcon and need to drive long distance and of course there's the chance of a breakdown. (I will be having the transmission serviced and an aftermarket fluid cooler fitted)
Roadside assistance won't tow me if I am more than 200km from the depot without a substantial increase in cost. One quotes 5$ per km. I won't have many options if I don't have phone coverage. I read that the reason auto's cannot be towed for distance or at speed is because the transmission overheats due to lack of fluid circulation. My question is can I fit an in-line electric pump to keep the fluid flowing to enable the vehicle to be towed further, safely? Is there anything else that could be done on the side of the road to increase towing distance? Thanks for your help

i have no idea re pump .... however IF ya gunna be towing it great distances . . . what about disconnecting the tailshaft from the diff & mounting/bolting it to either the floor or front of diff [but located so it doesn't rotate nor fall out!] or carry a spare yoke & tie that in back of box with cable/small rope tied around both?. with a cupla shopping bags to cover yoke on tailshaft whilst it's in back of wagooon.

You don't need a in line pump, just a good sizes trans cooler I use the PWR trans cooler on my XG ute barra & auto and never had a problem towing long distance or heavy loads or both.

I suspect that may be the only option, it's a far better one than having to replace the transmission in the middle of the desert. {USERNAME} wrote: Easy just put it on a tilt truck. It wouldn't cost a couple of thousand + to retrieve. Hopefully it never comes to that. If I can spend a little to provide the ability to tow I will. Generally someone will offer a tow to the next town where a repair may be possible, that can be up to 250km through the red centre. I guess that is why there's so many vehicles burned out on remote roads, there was no way to recover them.
