This makes peferct sense to me, I have the BA shifter and I am occasionly over revving my motor before gear change.

You need a frequency switch. Try jaycar for a kit. You can use the auto shift signal since that will only tell you when the auto is going to shift, not when you should shift!
A Convienient tach output is located in the diagnostic plug near the fuses.

I was able to score one of these shift light for my bday not long ago, think they bout $180aud (u have to get em from nz i think).
its a awsome light, its dual stage first middle light comes on to tell u to get ready to shift then the outer ring of lights come on when to shift, theres only 2 buttons as well to set the shift points. had it fitted in bout 30mins, just have to tap into a few cables behind ya dash. The only thing is its really bright cos its made up of 7 leds, and well they are pointing right at ya face. If ya want a pic of it installed tell me and ill sus one out
