until EB2 you cant be sure what you have - some are 28 spline, most are 25 spline. All the 4 speeds were supposed to get 28's but you never know.
There is some info on swapping the center here - http://www.fordmods.com/forums/viewtopi ... 557#520557

wow that info is really good pictures and all!!! Thankyou. I'm just going to cross my fingers and hope that everything fits. i've managed to buy two falcons for 200 each so if it does'nt fit i'll just buy an other falcon, sell the rest of for parts then the axel costs nothing. just got to convince my parents or my girlfriends parents to let me keep a car on their property:). this is going to be fun!! i can't wait untill i get a nice cam and lsd!

You should be also checking preloads and backlash as you go, not difficult just time consuming.

Thats right. With a bit of luck on your side you can just drop the new shims/center in and it will line up ok. If not its a fair bit of stuffing around to get it right.
Still its worth a shot. If your not happy with how it has gone together you can just take the bits and pieces to a diff shop to get sorted out.

28 spline axles are $200??? i through some out the other day cause they were getting in the way, with discs on them too off an ef.... damn!

the new car?? i don't like the sounds of this, holden? a drive to vic is a fair trek. how much for the manual tranny, would you be cool shipping?:P i'm excited by the prospect of installing my own lsd, i do like that idea, i'm gonna have to see if i can find out what spline my current diff is. i asked the guy whos selling the diff centre its a 28 and i'm feeling good about my chances of having a 28. i think my axel bearings could do with replacement, so while all this s**t is going down i'll change those too. but i'm interested in a manual and i hear the t5's are the way to go. also this centre is 3.37, so a slightly higher ratio will be wikid, although might be a bit much for a manual tranny. could you tell me what speed @ what rpm you got in fith gear with your t5 and the 3.23??

You check the mesh by painting some blue on the ring gear and spinning it a few times. The backlash is measured with a dial indicator or similar. Chances are it will all be fine with the shims that the center was fitted with origionally, if it doesnt, go talk to a diff shop.
checking mesh: checking backlash:

i have been meaning to put it in a tech docco for a while but been to busy...
The blue stuff is called prussian blue, its kind of greasy blue stuff that shows you where the pinion gear and ring gear come in contact (there are other substances you can use as well). If the diff is shimmed correctly the contact pattern will be roughly center of the teeth. If the contact pattern is off you need to add/remove shims to correct the position of the gears.
