Has anyone used a ceramic clutch? Is so, what are they like and can they with stand high horsepower applications? Are they heaver than a regular clutch? Any info would be greatly appreciated as my clutch is on its last legs and I am just summing up my options!
Thanks guys Wade |

From the little i know about them, they can hold a bit more power, without slipping as easily, but this then puts more strain on the gearbox.
So i don't know whether i will risk getting a Ceramic one myself, with a stock gearbox, as i need one soonish too. Someone might be able to confirm this or not... |

G'day Wade, I recnently (yesterday) fitted a ceramic clutch in my EL XR6 and all i can say is wow! This thing is bulletproof, i havnt givin it a good caning yet but it is proving to be an awesome clutch. THe clutch kit i used was supplied from Sunbury Brake and Clutch and was purchased off ebay. I would say it is only mildy heavier than my old heavy duty clutch was but it just bites in really firmly, takes a little while to get used to but i would reccomend one of these clutches to anyone.

Thats good to hear mate!
I'm in Sunbury, so i am looking at getting one from him too, but didn't know about what the Ceramic's would do to the gearbox. At least thats something positive about the guy's clutches. |

The clutch kit cost me $460 deliverd and it cost me $40 to have my flywheel machined. FItted it myself with help from a few mates and lots of bundy. Was a bit of a pain doing it one grond though, would have been so much easier with a hoist
Cheers Gav

Mine was pretty heavy but still ok. Certainly gripped well. What sort of power are you trying to hold?

At the moment I'm only trying to hold 212rwkw, but should hopefully be around the 250+ rwkw mark soon enough.
I just don't want to totally screw my gearbox, just yet, because of a clutch... I kinda don't have the money for a strong T5 rebuild or T56 from Mal Wood. |

Well T5 "Z" Spec would be my reccomendation but it will cost around $2,200 changeover. If not then you wont get long from your T5.
It might hold up on the dyno in 4th, but ont he street mine lasted around 3 weeks with 225rwkw.

Thats a great idea Pyroay, i might have to seriously consider a 'Z' Spec box then. When i spoke to Mal, he was basically trying to flog me the T56, which i am interested in, but not yet with the cash flow atm.
Do you know any more about the 'Z' spec box? Like how much power is meant to be able to be put through it, etc. Also whats done differently to make them a 'Z' spec. Thanks mate. |

CHeers Gav Thats excellent news coz I was looking at the same clutch! Mine is just rooted now! It stuck down last night so I would say that the spring is getting pretty weak! Aaron: I am looking at a bit more power than 250rwkw but I was gonna go the 'Z' Spec anyway! Heard nothing but good things about it! It was either that or I return to the auto but I dont wanna do that! Whats Mal flogging the T56's for now days? |

5k for a Reco T56.
I've got most of the details off him at the Nats, when i was speaking with him. I might be able to find the sheet i got, and put up the ratio's, etc and what i comes with if you need it. |
