gday all, am looking to upgrade my diff from the stocko 3.23 to something higher. i was thinking 3.7 but im a bit worried about fuel consumption on the high way i dont want it to be to redeculous but am prepared to pay a bit more for the extra go. would this chioce be a bit to high? should i just go with 3.45.
any adive is good advice
cheers

ask anyone that actually has 3.9 or 4.11 diff gears and theyl tell you that they get better city fuel economy. over all it shouldnt move to much but if you do heaps of free way driving you might notice a little diffrence

Exactly right! I think overall my Economy is actually better.

On the highway my Economy went from around 8L to 9L per 100L

Around town in the low 13's

all your gears will be noticeable shorter, youll need grippy tires to avoid wheelspin during gear changes

3.7's are great in a 5 speed , best mod i've done, my car sits on 2850rpm at 120km/h.

I recently fully rebuilt my diff, 4.11 + lsd, best mod i've done..... drivability is awesome, economy @ cruise is awesome, around town, not so good, my trip says around 22L per hundred...... thats on 98 oct and driving it no harder than half throttle, ON MY E PLATES!!!! shifting can feel a little soft sometimes and sloppy(4spd in perfect cond, brand new oil + filter + external oil cooler fitted)

I have corrected my speedo the pcm sometimes trips out and no u can't just buy a speedo gear, you need to buy or build a speedo signal corrector, and if u hold it flat stick it bounces on the rev limiter in first have to back of to change and sometimes hit rev limiter in second.

Also noticed i have killed a universal join in the first 3 weeks of driving.

Also noticable diff a*** whine @ 75-80km/hr.(NORMAL)

Fairly difficult to set up 4.11's in your borg warner diff @ home, NOT COMMOS but falcons are. unless u buy the new a*** off the shelf you don't know what u are gettin, i spent about 3 hrs sorting out my pinion shim wich ended up being huge, like 5.5mm... normaly .4mm or something.... most diff shops won't touch second hand a***.

wish i did this on my xf when i had the 4.0l + 5 SPD in there.

Need any info give us a yell, done a few.
