My mate wants me to change the extension housing seal on his EF tranny and I remember talking to another mate about it a few years ago and him mentioning something tricky about changing the bushing as well. Does anyone know if it is straight forward as just replacing a poxy seal?

I did my El seal, was about $25 from Autobarn.
I jacked up the rear a bit to stop the oil coming out.
marked which way the universal sat in the yoke.
The hardest part was cracking the driveshaft nuts (nearly blew a foo foo valve.)
Popped the old seal out with a screwdriver put some sealer on the outer surface and tapped the new one in with a large socket and hammer.
Loctited the old nuts back on the driveshaft, easy as.

yeah the ol blue loctite from factory on the driveshaft nuts and bolts trick. they'll have you going for a while if they havent been previously done. no bushing to speak of in the extension housing.

Cheers for that. He got quotes to fix a few things. $69 labour alone to do the seal and $69 labour to change a fan belt. Rip off pricks.

If it is leaking out the seal it is possible that the bush is worn as well. Before you take the tail shaft out try to move it up and down in the extension housing to see if there is any large amount of movement. Also check your front universal joint as if it is stiff or notchy this will cause the bush to wear and the seal to leak.

I haven't even looked at it yet, he was told it was weeping slightly. Will give it a look over when I get under it.
