Hey guys
I got a mate wanting to put disc brakes on the rear and he was thinks of using his spare front rotors to put on the back axels( i have no idea why he doing this) but what diff from front and back rotors and what need to convert to drum besides calipers and is there any diff from front and back calipers and are the calipers connected different? is it a, Just buy a new rear axel with is disc or it possible (i so can see him having brakes that don't work by doing this and don't want to lose a mate to stupid unexperenced car modifications like this) thx guys

later (XC?) onwars front discs have an integral hub, which means you cant just whack 'em on the rear
otherwise, easiest way is to source a complete disc brake rear axle, rear handbrake cables and master cylinder

G'day
I did this conversion in the rear of my xf wagon. You need a complete xe diff, by the time you buy the axels with the discs on them for the diff he has theres no point. The calipers are different, they also need to be wound back in with a special tool. The hand brake cables are different and need to be changed. Its a not a big job, just a matter of having the time to do it. I took a day to change the diff over but then took another day till it was driving again. I used reco'd calipers and brand new slotted rotars. New pad and brake lines aswell. Cheers

I would go the rear diff assembly from an XF Fairmont GHIA. There rear discs arent to bad!

And DON'T forget the Master cylinder as rear discs need a proportioning valve or they keep locking up Early disc brake setups used a proportioning valve in the line to the rear brakes but later ones incorporated it into the master cylinder

Also be carefull if sourcing 91mdl XF Parts (ute) or any other E series stuff
I recently put a very heavy duty 3.45:1 LSD EA Ambulance Wagon Diff Into an XF Ute, (i say heavy duty as these Axles were HUGE) It seems Ford liked using metric and Imperial threads in the phase out period of the XF's, This in return forced me into getting made and Imperial Brake line (chassis) to Metric Diff Line! But this is bugger cost (around 25bux per pipe) and No, I didn't need to modify the proportioning valve as this car was a 'bitz'n'peices direct from Ford!
