Just thought I'd let you guy's know about these cheap tyres that came with the Koya drifteks I bought for my Pursuit ute.
They are Achilles ATR sport 235/40x18 and 265/35x18.
Against my better judgement I accepted them as part of the deal and didn't upgrade to something better when i bought the wheels.
They seemed fine at first, surprisingly quiet also. I noticed the rears were not fitted with the balance dots lined up correctly. Then I noticed some vibration. It's like they were going out of round so I checked for runout and they had about 5mm!? I took em back and they rebalanced them and said the fronts were ok but I noticed they had also balanced them again. They seemed slightly better but still not good. So I did a nice big burnout to true them up. That made them better but now they actually get worse after they are warmed up and the vibration is shocking and it seems to be the front bouncing. They do the "wow wow" sound of out of round tyres when braking.
So in a word....don't touch these pieces of crap!
I'm getting probably Khumo KU-31's instead now.

yeah cheap chinese crap, same as 'triangle' and 'clear'.
haven't tried the KU31s but i've been really happy with the Toyo Proxes4 in 245/35R19.
Relatively cheap too, around 300 a tyre for that size.

Kuhmo KU31 are a great all round tyre and used them on my 19z and now on my 16z and the 19z have done a good 35,000kms and plenty of tread left. Also they are 320 tyre wear so there soft enough for good grip and last but if u go under 320 tyre wear then the tyres are more grippy and dont last as long.

Haha "Clear" i had them on my 19's. Worst tyres ever. Just upgraded to Maxxis MAZ-1's and they are a pretty good tyre. Can get them for around 240-250 bucks.

I recently put KU31s on the EF. Loads better grip than the Falkens I had on there, and quieter to boot.

I'm using the Achilles Sport on my 20's.
They are super quiet on the road compared to the yokhama's that were on previously. None of the problems you suggest though.
But they dont offer much grip when put under some load :D about 17psi worth. heh or when wet.
Am down sizing to some lightweight 19's when I find some I like.

saying you get 'semi slicks' and 'kumho ecstas' cheap is like you asking me what car i drive and me telling you 'one with seats'.

I should also mention, they go out of round when parked overnight too...when you drive off in the morning they feel like oval shaped tyres!?! The car bounces up and down all the way down the street!
Yep Khumo 275/35x18 and 245/40x18 are on their way. I looked at Maxxis too(I had the MA-V1 on my GT and they were good) but 275/38x18 aren't available. I also looked at Hankook,Falken and Nangkang.
The tyre shop offered me new Michelin Pilot3 which have some kind of deal going for only $250ea but only in 1 size.

Sounds like you got them out of a s**t run. My mate had those on his 'mont for a good 12 months (235/40/18) and had no issues with them. I'm not saying theyre not cheap crap, but you still shouldnt get those issues.
I've got Maxxis V1s on the front of mine in 245/40/18s and theyre a pretty grippy tyre both wet and dry.

I don't think this is a problem soley related to cheap tyres, but I am sure they do get more incidents of tyres out of round than the more expensive names.

A friend bought a VE Calais, Bridgestone regatta tyres from memory, 3 out of 4 out of the wheels where ovals. just a bad batch.

I think Waggen means the Kuhmo KU36's when he say's semi slick as i think thats what there considered as but the tread pattern looks like other usuall semi slick's in the market.
