After getting off the phone with a rep from the auto specialist about a quote. I came back to double check manual on the fluid types and it'd appear someone had a snafu.
"Power steering fluid type .................. Dexron III Automatic trans fluid type .................. Dexron III Manual trans fluid type 3 speed ............................................ Dexron II/III 4 speed ............................................ TQ95" Is it just me or is this all mixed up? Seems they swapped manual and auto in this information. Either way I have been driving around with about 4L of Dex III in my XG after doing a fluid dump and filter early this year. From memory Repco even recommended it. Also I have a spare (91LE i think...) trans waiting to go in. From experience is there anything i would do well to make sure gets changed on it? Or just leave it up to the auto specialist.. cheers, Andrew |

I understand that now, however at a glance before i learned more about these fords I was thrown as they put that information under the manual transmissions subheading instead of automatic. Hence i got from that book that both auto varieties would use the dex. Maybe its just me haha!

The BTR TQ95 fluid is basically just Dexron fluid with a special additive. So, if you have replaced some of the TQ95 with Dexron (I think the trans holds a lot more than 4 litres), you have diluted the additive. It would pay to top up the additive to avoid damaging your transmission:

I've seen what happens when DEX III is used instead of TQ95....it turns to grease.
It was really hard to get it out of the cooler lines too. The 5sp used DEX III.....the 3 & 4 sp manuals used 30W engine oil.....back in the day.
