anyone have an idea what might be loose causing something like this?
I have had a quick look but cant see any evidence of anything moving or loose. under heavy brakes a "clunk"/bang noise is heard from the front RHS - the handling of the car is not effected (ie cannot be felt). Whatever moves, appears to click/clunk back into place if you are parking or something and use full lock. the car has new tie rod ends, stock ride height/suspension

Possibly the sway bar hitting on the chassis under hard braking. Check for wear marks just out from the D bush on the bent section where it passes the chassis.

Has new shocks ? maybe they put the lower mount bolt the wrong way around, bolt head should be at rear-not at front.

i would have said either upper control arm bushes or radius rod bushes front, has it only done this noise since the shocks went in?hence could be an installation error of the shocks??

I second this.. had the exact same symptoms before, this was my prob. depending on the state your bushes are in you will definatly need 2 17mm spanners to take the uper control arm off, you will find it has either eaten itself to bits or the rubber has decayed and turned to marshmallow.. Pretty easy job to do, buy nolathane replacements (or what ever brand you so desire) pull the old ones out, put the new ones in. Use the lube that comes with the nolathane bushes and she will slide straight in. Nolathane part number is 45326.

A friend of mine had this problem when he got new shocks put into his AU. But what caused his problem was the spring wasn't put inline... if you know what i mean.
Needless to say, he got it fixed quick smart.
