My car is an '97 EL Fairmont Ghia 5 Litre V8 with 185,000 Km and I'm the original owner.

There is a clunking noise coming from the diff area when changing from second to third gear in the auto transmission.
I have just had the transmission overhauled, new torque converter, the works. The transmission is like brand new and I'm very happy with the word done on it.
I never noticed the clunking noise before the transmission was worked on, surely there can't be a link between working on the transmission and a clunking noise in the diff.

Please, any help would be appreciated.

Are the tail shaft bolts tight ???
How are the upper trailing arm bushes ???

I had a similar problem which got less noticeable with changing the diff oil.
