hey all
just picked up the mont wagon - drives smooth, except for 2 issues: 1 - changing from 1st - 2nd it clunks if driven anything besides grandpa-style. assuming its a solanoid (spelling lol)? if so, what approx $$$? 2 - the steering is a little 'loose' - the wheel has about 1cm of play either way, and slightly 'grinds' as such when turning over centre - would this be a bent steering shaft in the engine bay? i can't remember exactly what its called, but it hits the ball joint for the steering? cheers!

1 sounds liek s5 is going or needs a service with fresh fluid
2 the grinding could be the rack.... and or tie rod ends or even the steering colum rip steering wheel off and spray with lithum grease and crc worked on my dads car the looseness could be tie rod ends and or rack

Frank the trans could simply need a service or S1 (shift solenoid) S5 (damper solenoid) could be faulty.
With the steering cold be worn rack (can be tightened) worn tie rods, worn rack ends but basically could be anything. If the steering shaft is worn and its an EL i have a good one here you can have as there are around $300 new. |

S5 solanoid - will be collecting her tomorrow lunchtime
steering is the LHF wheel bearing! what kind of $$$ for one of those? he said they're soild units so i don't need a press or anything - whats the ease/difficulty of doing one at home? cheers!

wheel bearings are a piece of piss,
take wheel off, remove calipers,remove dust cover, remove pin, undo castle nut, pull rotor + outer bearings off, tap old ones out put new in, put back on (ive missed some really important steps like greasing and cleaning) and it IS an art to do it without the bearing stuffing up a few weeks later, but it can be done at home with simple tools
