Hi guys.. haven't been on here in a while.. a long while, but i haven't had any troubles yet..
anyways.. i have in the last 2 years converted my ELXR6 from a auto to a manual, and installed a JMM DEV5 kit and it's working really well.. but hte clutch in the last 2 months has been playing up.. it was starting to become hard changing gears, so i tighten the nut of the clutch cable just alittle and it fixed my trouble, for a month, then it happened again, so i though the nut was slipping, and tighten it some more till it was just right.. now i get a creaking when putting it down, so i asked the miss to puch the clutch while i look @ the cable in the engine bay, the it all started to move with the firewall.. now.. my machanic said he can fix it by welding a plate to fix it, or maybe go Hydraulic but he doesn't know if it can be done easily.. Does anyone know if their are kits for the T5 to do this.. or is this somthing which will have to be fabricated.. (i hope not) My miss thinks the clutch is to tough and i think it would be easier on her if it went Hydraulic ... thanx in advance

Firewall flex is a common problem with manuals (had it tear on mine but got it plated). Going hydraulic sounds like a good option but would have a fair amount of work that would need to be done to do it (have visions of the dash coming out). Anything can be done but at what cost??
Let us know how you go, cos I'm sure there would be many manual owners out there that could find this advise usefull

There is actually a genuine ford part to fix this: tell your local dealer you want the plate that goes there on an XD/E six cylinder manual. similar to the pulsar one but you dont need to modify it just weld it in. btw ive only ever had this happen to me with hd clutches but have seen it happen std.

make ur own one thats wat i did with my ED XR6 and its a hell of a lot bigger then that i cut it to shape and welded it in fire wall never moved again the ones from ford are 2 small and they crack the fire wall even more ya just gotta watch the carpet lol it tends to catch alight easy

Yes that is correcy! There is a genuine ford part that can fix this but as stated it aint the strongest of items! I would also make my own! As said by 1sickeb watch the carpet cause it likes to burn! I used a few damp rags to keep my fix up from catching fire!?

i think that ford part is a myth.
ive tried 3 different ford dealers in sydney and none of them has ever heard about it.. i got told by thompson ford that there may have been a few that might have been made by ford for warranty purposes? but there was no part no for that part. so if someone has this part no please post it up. |
