I was just wondering if anyone had pics on where through the engine bay the clutch cable runs on a EB.
half way through a manual conversion and i was just wondering were exactly it runs

Hey man, I had this problem too when converting mine.
I called a mate at the local ford joint and got the diagrams faxed over. A pic is worth a thousand words, if you can wait 45 mins I'll take some of mine and post them up for you...

Ok mine is an EF but it should point me roughly in the right direction.

Just be prepared for the fact it's not pretty - there end up being bends/angles that I just can't feel comfortable with - but that's the way it's meant to be. I think the cables in these need to be somewhat shorter so they lay in a smooth loop instead of having to be routed with tight bends.

EF/EL run from the firewall going down on the drivers side of the exhaust manifold, inbetween a small gap where the steering column connects to the rack and from there runs along the steering rack under the sump and bends back out into the gear box at approximately where the starter motor is.

as mentioned its not pretty from the top side Attachment: Attachment: Attachment: from under drivers side Attachment: from passengers side Attachment: if anything, push more of the top loop down and have more at the bottom, but thats how i did it.. hope that helps

If you ever notice, there should be a grommet on the cable, there is from factory a clip that this goes into and screws in halfway along the steering rack body. You can see the mount in pic 4, to the right of the cable ties. Not having the clip - I'd cable tie the cable in two spots on the rack, near each bellows, rather than in the centre as per the pic. In the last pic, there should be a bracket that the cable clips into, so it enters through the bellhousing straight, not on a bend as shown.

The bracket at the bellhousing end is highly possible Snap
I got mine from a "bush car" to put it simply LOL, so there was no bracket, or the plastic boot/box either Dont have a pic of one by chance?

It's not possible Dude - it needs to be there.
Looks like a right angle bracket with a clip bend - a standoff I guess. Bolts to the bellhousing, and positions the cable to go straight in. If you did like the pic, the cable would probably saw through the plastic surround over time, and the cable would chafe against the bellhousing hole.

As long as the cable works and it's not actually in vibration contact with anything (maybe tie rap a piece of split hose on the relevant section and also apply a bit of silastic as a standoff?) then the pictured routing on the bellhousing side is actually more gentle on it than using the standoff/bracket which then forces a really tight bend to enable the cable to run along the rack. Downside of the pictured arrangement is that you end up with an even longer section on the column side to deal with - ie. as pictured, the cable has had to be "S"d to some degree to make it fit.
You can see how if the cable assembly were maybe as much as 2 foot shorter it would be a smoother fit overall. With the correct bracket on the bellhousing etc. the cable needs to go down to the rack, make a fairly tight bend to align along the rack, then make a fairly tight bend to go into the bellhousing bracket on the other side.

Ive actually looked into the bellhousing hole the cable goes through to see if the cable rubs the plastic bush that goes in it, its all clear. The bit of plastic worn off the cable is a section that has cracked off before I got hold of the parts.
theres no rubbing anywhere. Its not too much of an issue having a bigger loop on the exhaust side, as long as the cable isnt touching or too close, I hooked it through the steering rack pipes as shown to hold it away from the extractors. its really just the visual side if you dont like the ugly..

Yeah, the loops do look a little awkward but on balance are nicer curves than the factory fit forces the cable to take - so overall I think what you've done there is actually quite a bit better than the factory fit

I don't run my clutch cable as per factory fitting...too many tight curves.
Also have found that puting a wide band hose clamp on the soft insulator at the bellhousing end of the cable also gives you back 4mm of cable travel.

Well, my setups have a nice sweeping loop with the bracket in place, so no tight bends there.
I'd say the bracket should be there also for extra support - have a look while someone operates the pedal - I'd think the cable will try to straighten up - correct me if I'm wrong. What's this bracket on the other side of the bellhousing ?? 2 foot shorter would to be a mistype?? EF/EL/XH cables are around 3-4" shorter than EB/ED ones. Yeah obviously, there has to be 2 bends, try and make them as smooth as you can.

i figured it out and ran it where i thought, which is pretty much the same as those pics. i am now the proud owner of a manual e-series
