I have the problem of early deterioration with my clutch cable since installation of heavy duty clutch. (EB2 Wagon)

My mechanic recommends I put a "V8 Clutch cable" In instead of the existing one .

Now Would I be right in saying the cables are the same in both models 6 and 8cyl??? or wrong?

If so is there any reason the V8 Cable would not fit?

Any info appreciated,

cheers,

mick

Dunno about the EB cable but the EF/EL cables are much shorter

afaik the v8 cable is shorter and runs down the drivers side of the bell housing and the 6 cyl run down to the passenger side..

as for the cable being stronger.
the thing that does make me laugh is when some people think because its from a v8 it will be better or stronger..

i dont think it would make a difference if the v8 cable was stronger as the firewall and pedal box usually fail before the cable does anyway...

Already replaced Pedal Box, and had firewall *modded* so no flex. Clevis stalks cause me more probs...welded numerous times !!

Also afaik, Most V8's produce more torque then most 6's- thus needing a stronger spring diaphragm- requiring noticeably more force to engage - to ensure no slippage of driven plate to fly wheel. So typically- V8 Clutch units are " better & stronger"- also the reason of application of 2 plate clutches.
This, imo would require a heavier gauge cable, to compensate the strain from pedal to fork.

Maybe I'm wrong.....correct me..

im in the same boat with the firewall being re-enforced and the pedal box also re-enforced also snaping a few clevices aswell.

i only got a 6 cyl with a hd clutch..
after all the parts that have failed around the cable and so far ive never had a cable snap...

anyway the v8 one is on the other side of the bellhousing compared to the 6 cyl..
and from memory the inner cable is the same size and the clevices are all the same from v8 to 6 so if anything is going to break it will be the normal things that always break..
i hope that makes sense

what i would really like to do is a hydraulic clutch conversion..
im considering hunting down a whole heap of different clutch master and slave cylinders and try make something..

sorry to hijack the thread but its kinda related to your question. Do the EB and EL i6 use the same clutch cable?

maybe someone should give a quick rundown of the different clutch cables the falcons use?

6 cyl ea from 1989 onwards use the same cable as ef/el.(posably au)
and anything before 1989 has a short cable that runs down the drivers side of the bellhousing like the v8 one or xf 6 cyl
