is there or should there be a stop on the clutch pedal to stop it coming back too far?
Ive had a look on mine and i cant see anything.

No, there's no stop. Have you got a small spring to pull the pedal back towards the firewall? It's supposed to put a bit of tension on the clutch cable. Is there a problem with the pedal height?

There is a stop on mine. (EA pedal box, modded to fit EL)
Its supposed to have block of rubber on it so it doesnt make noise, but mine is gone.

The factory manual pedalboxes do have a small rubber backstop - but it's of little relevance while the pedal height is determined by the clutch cable tension and adjustment on the engine side firewall.
