Hi guys,
I own a BF XR8, whenever I really give her some from time to time 1st to 2nd at around peak 6500rpm the gear will not engage?? I just wait a sec or 2 for the revs to drop before I engage again 2nd. So for example if I was to do an aggressive burnout within secs after a bit of wheel spin she slips :/ I don’t know if this is normal for the BFs or what. Done it all the time I have had it. To drive the car normal no problem, drive it like a V8 and that’s what happens. It’s starting to ........ you know what I mean. I just ask this question because I’m just thinking of now getting a new clutch and down the track ill be supercharge her anyway. Any help would be great!! Thanks guys, dan

correct me if i am wrong, but doesnt it have esp??
it sounds like it is not the clutch. new clutches dont do that sort of thing, hell, my 13 year old clutch didnt even do that check the specs, but i thought it had esp, which cant be switched off....

Hi Sam,
All I know is that it has dynamic stability control and traction control which can be turned off with the on dash button. Im not sure what ESP is tho I have seen BF xr8's doing burnouts and they dont have this problem hahaha:) cheers

seeing as i have an el, i have not much idea about these things.
esp is electronic stability programming, similar to traction control.. welll,,,, if tcs is off, there should be no reason why it is doing it. Now, a test.. you said it slips at around 5000rpm?? to test whether it is the clutch, drive it in 2nd or 3rd at about 3000rpm. then accelerate hard to 4-4500rpm. because torque output from the motor will be the same in every gear, the clutch should slip in every gear at the highest peak in torque. if it isnt doing this, i dont think it would be the clutch. How old is the car? When did you get it? Have you washed/ polished/ detailed the engine bay? The reason why i ask is it could be a belt slip... but, as you said, BF xr8's can and do perform burnouts tell me how the test goes

She's a late 2006 model BF xr8, brought it brand spanking new from "Hidden Valley Ford Darwin" always slipped from day dot. That test, well I can tell you now theres no problem powering up from 3000rmp in 2nd or 3rd. Only from the start dose it slip 1st to 2nd. Quote: Have you washed/ polished/ detailed the engine bay? Negitive.Im thinking I just buy a new clutch, its out of warranty now I think anyway.

Quote: To drive the car normal no problem Is it acutally slipping? Like driving normally does it seem just to rev or just happen when you are being foolish at the high end of the rev range. I think it could be not a clutch issue more then a traction control or stabilty control issue. Any clutch shudder while taking off or change gears?

Hey Froudey,
1st up thanks for the reply. When you say slipping I never owned a manual for this car so maybe it’s not slipping. Yeah it will do it mainly when I’m at high rpm, there has never been any shuddering at all just pure neutral.....so this is what happened once when I went to do a burnout: started in first high revs 4500 dropped the clutch wheel spin for a sec or two then neutral I then went to got into second which acted like neutral again waited 3-4 secs before engaging first again and driving off. How bloody embracing, I have a v8 and the one time out of the blue I got to do a burnout in front of mates this happens. The traction control/stability control might just be the issue maybe I could pull the fuse if there is one for it and do a test. But I’m not to keen in making problems so any advice on how we can go about disable it would help narrow the problem I think:) thanks, dan
