hi guys
i have an interesting problem with my cluch pedal and clutch staying depressed on high rpm gear changes? if i drive normal its fine.. but if i give it a boot full and do a fast high rpm change the clutch stays disengaged with the pedal on the floor untill the revs drop down to about 4000rpm then the pedal releases with a snap back action. ive even adjusted the clutch to the point of engaging just off the floor to try help the situation but it still does it. any ideas on what would cause this.?????? |

It sounds like the diagphram in the pressure plate is being thrown over centralised & the force generated by the high RPM's hold it there - I had a similar problem with one of my cars years ago.

So this must have only just developed since Friday?
Is it in every gear? Seems very odd to me. I would suggest, if you have to get 'another' new clutch, that you source a 6 bolt flywheel first. BenJ

Yep definately sound like the pressure plate. If you have the clutch adjustment to far from the floor you can actually cause the springs/teeth on the pressure plate to be over depressed thrown over the centerline and the pressure plate locks exaxtly like you are describing. You are lucky it is springing back! It won't keep spinging back you will snap one off or destroy the clutch eventually. Your clutch point should be about 30mm off the floor, any further this will occure. Worst case scenario is pressure plate out and it will need to get the springs reset, if you are lucky, VERY LUCKY, you might be able to fix it by adjusting the pedal properly.

BenJ it has done a few times when this cluch was in the ea but not as often as it does it now.. another clutch???? this clutch is only 6 months old lol.. |

- You need a pressure plate with a stronger diaghpram spring for extra "clamping pressure"...

Get hold of a VCT spec clutch - They had the strongest clutch in the 6cyl.

I've never seen this problem before so this might be way off, but could it be the throw-out bearing getting caught on the bearing retainer? you could check this with a dab of grease or by getting a steel bearing retainer.

Its a problem with the 3 bolt clutch, OED666 had this drama, turns out the pressure plate doesnt like high rpm shifts
