hi guys
i have an interesting problem with my cluch pedal and clutch staying depressed on high rpm gear changes?

if i drive normal its fine.. but if i give it a boot full and do a fast high rpm change the clutch stays disengaged with the pedal on the floor untill the revs drop down to about 4000rpm then the pedal releases with a snap back action.
ive even adjusted the clutch to the point of engaging just off the floor to try help the situation but it still does it.

any ideas on what would cause this.??????

It sounds like the diagphram in the pressure plate is being thrown over centralised & the force generated by the high RPM's hold it there - I had a similar problem with one of my cars years ago.

So this must have only just developed since Friday?

Is it in every gear?

Seems very odd to me.

I would suggest, if you have to get 'another' new clutch, that you source a 6 bolt flywheel first.

Yep definately sound like the pressure plate. If you have the clutch adjustment to far from the floor you can actually cause the springs/teeth on the pressure plate to be over depressed thrown over the centerline and the pressure plate locks exaxtly like you are describing. You are lucky it is springing back! It won't keep spinging back you will snap one off or destroy the clutch eventually. Your clutch point should be about 30mm off the floor, any further this will occure. Worst case scenario is pressure plate out and it will need to get the springs reset, if you are lucky, VERY LUCKY, you might be able to fix it by adjusting the pedal properly.

- You need a pressure plate with a stronger diaghpram spring for extra "clamping pressure"...

at the moment the clutch is adjusted as close to the floor as posable without getting clutch drag..
and it only stays down when the engine revs are at 5000rpm and over..
hmm this sucks..so ive been through 3 clutches in 2 years..
and they all have failed for different reasons..
1st clutch disintergrated..
2nd clutch got oil contamination from a leaky input shaft seal.
3rd clutch had the dampeners fall out and get wedged between the clutch and flywheel bolts..

any recomendationd an a decent clutch??

this is the 4th clutch in 2 years..
ive used 2 pbr h/d, one valeo hd(which was crap) and this one it a exedi h/d..

so far the exedi has been the best clutch for feel and grab.

Get hold of a VCT spec clutch - They had the strongest clutch in the 6cyl.

I've never seen this problem before so this might be way off, but could it be the throw-out bearing getting caught on the bearing retainer? you could check this with a dab of grease or by getting a steel bearing retainer.

Its a problem with the 3 bolt clutch, OED666 had this drama, turns out the pressure plate doesnt like high rpm shifts

i think i can rule that out as i had the box and clutch apart 2 weeks ago when i changed my engine..
and the steel retainer is fine and was greased lightly

the thing is ive been running the 3 bolt clutch set up for a few years with a couple of different engine typs.
and the have all reved the same and has only done it with this clutch..
its just got me puzzled to why its only doing it with this clutch??..
looks like i have to drive it easy for a while...
then i might just change over to the 6 bolt flywheel and clutch..
