My ute currently has the 3spd auto. I want to upgrade to a 4 or 5 spd auto, but still keep it on column shift. What would be the best way to go about it?
cheers

Hmmm, sounds like a bit of a hard one there!
The only way I can think of would be to upgrade to an E series motor and 4 speed auto. When I say easy, this is still quite alot of work. As far as I know there are no bolt on 4 speed autos to a 250 6 cylinder. |

Nah, I meant 4spd auto. How do you think an E-series 4spd column shift would go with a BA engine in the XF? (I know, it sounds funny, but i'm serious)

If you are that serious about it, you'd be better off running the BA tranny as well. If you are looking at this level of modification, then adapting the BA tranny to column shift will comparatively be a walk in the park!! |

Make sure you get the computer for it. Also make sure you do get a Ute type as BA sedans dont run speedo gears or have provision for them.

It has been said on here that the BTR 4speeds won't fit in the XF transmission tunnel (5 sp manual T5's will) - apparently was the word used, so it would be worth investigating if this is fact or fiction.
If they don't fit, you might be able to cut and fit an XG or XH transmission hump (if they are different to the XF). As they did run these transmissions.
