My auto box is on its way out (rooted solenoids, mainly) and I've been looking into converting the car to manual with a T5 box. I've been told by some people to just fit a new auto box and upgrade it (shift kit, better gears, etc.) and by others to go ahead with the manual conversion. What's the best option for both cost and power? I want more power out of the car (already got Pacemaker extractors, AU cat and Redback exhaust, Spectre POD filter in box (which doesn't do much for power, but improves throttle response amazingly) and AU fuel rail), but need to know what the advantages/disadvantages of a manual conversion are compared to modifying the stock auto box.

Cheers!

Depends on what you want to do with the car.
If it will only be driven hard in a straight line and you are gay get a built auto.
If you actually enjoy driving your car around corners go a manual.

Based on that fact my Mum is the best around!

Definitely corners over straight line driving. A manual trans is also far more reliable, I've heard. The auto boxes get clunky easily.
