I know ShiftKits has a speedo corrector but is there any way to do it with just resistors or with something that is readily available anyway? Don't really wanna wait a week for the corrector to get here so I can put the diff in
EDIT: I know you can get a speedo gear but Ford's closed today and I dunno if they would really stock them... not something alot of people would be after I would imagine Last edited by InspectorRectum on Sat Nov 15, 2008 5:13 pm, edited 1 time in total. |

just put the diff in and in the meantime use this calculator to work out what the speedo shows & what speed your really doing so you dont get a fine

far as i know it wont effect the shift points..... its when you go to correct the speedo with an electronic corrector that you will have issues, as the theory is you will have to use 2 of them,.... one to correct the speedo reading and one to change the original signal back for the ecu to keep shift points happy....
but even that doesnt make sense.... ive always been confused with electronic speedo correctors kits behind an auto... If i were you i would get the 3.45 speedo cog for the gearbox then you should be ok. |

wait wait.. you have to change the speedo reading with an electronic kit then change it BACK before it gets to the ecu... so are the shift points determined by speed or revvs? ...for some reason i thought i read it was the speed, but it would make more sence to have them governed by the revs, no? or are they...
and this speedo cog, is it actually a cog, like a gear? where does it go cause I've pulled apart a cluster to do the backdrop and didnt see any cog... Last edited by InspectorRectum on Sat Nov 15, 2008 7:09 pm, edited 1 time in total. |

yes but your speedo will be out..... i think the cog is on the driver's side of the gearbox.
You will soon see if the shift points are affected if you floor it and it bounces off the redline between gear changes |

haha alright then ill give it a go, im not worried about the speedo reading cause ill just sit 10kms under when there's cars around
should i make a point of dropping the revs before redline so the car isnt 'under load' when it starts bouncing? (quick newb double question here: does under load mean the engine moving at a high speed and therefore the car is 'under a load -of torque, hp, etc'?) |

with 3.45 you just need the speedo gear to suit the ratio..and it will be fine..

It is true that the 3.23 and the 3.27 diff ratio share the same speedo gear?

yep! 3.23 and 3.27 use the green 21 tooth gear..... here is the gear lay out with the std tyre sizes.. 205-65-R15 3.23 Light Green-21 EF 8Cyl, 6Cyl Wagon & LSD (Auto) 205-65-R15 3.45 Grey-22 XR6 (Auto & Man) 205-65-R15 3.23 Light Green-21 EF XR8 (Manual) 205-65-R15 3.45 Grey-22 EF XR (Auto) 225-50-R16 3.45 Black-23 EF Tickford 16" wheel option (Auto & Man) 225-50-R16 3.45 Black-23 EL XR6 & XR8 |

If i were you i would get the 3.45 speedo cog for the gearbox then you should be ok. Putting the 3.45 cog in will stuff the shiftpoints, if the ECU is still shifting based off a 3.08 diff. It's not that confusing, it doesn't shift the auto based on revs, it does it off speed. So when you put the 'right' cog in to correct the speed, the ECU doesn't realise that the revs are now different at the speed it wants to shift at.
