To buy a genuine Ford S5 or VPS solenoid is expensive, part number AU 640078 A1 $309.00.
You will need to dump the oil out of the trans, buy a new sump gasket and a filter. The S5 isn't hard to get out as lo9ng as you have torx bits if not, might be an idea to have it changed by a mechanic. |

For what it's worth I had the S5 in my EFII done a few weeks ago by a tranny shop - it cost $520 all up.

gday all ,my el sapphire needed a s5 solenoid ,i read somewhere that the s5 is interchangable with a vr onwards commodore tl460e transmission vps (gm call it a force motor),i bought 4 litres of tq95 from repco for $30 (on special) a rear trans seal $20 ,a transgold filter /gasket from supercheap $17,i also had an old v8 tl460e from my old clubsport which i opened up and took the force motor from .following the instuctions posted on forums ,i changed rear seal ,s5 solenoid ,filter ,gasket with excellent results,it took 3 hour including cleaning up the mess ,cost me $67 ,a saving of $450 odd .car now drives perfectly with no hard 1-2 shift when warm ,and postive 2-3 shift, aswell as no more leaks from rear seal,it is not a hard job for someone with basic mechanical knowledge .
