My EB2 Fairmont has creaky rear brakes, The only seem to do this when they warm up but its f**k annoying. I have tried different brake pads and used that anti squeal stuff but nothing seems to work. When you put new pads on the creak goes away for aboutthe first 1000ks but comes back. Anyone have a cure??? I have heard other EB's making the same noise. You notice is most when in a car park when you are going slowand are using the brakes softly.

Sounds like it could be brake dust. Did you get a good low dust pad?
Also slotted rotors help keep everything clean if you're willing to put up the cash for them. |

dust or ur pads are low ill guess. My car has the same prob but i cbf cleaning them out lol...If you are fussy about it take the wheels off and clean out each rotor n the pads...fun stuff, expect to get ur hands black

sounds like the niose comes in as the pad beds in, are the rotors glazed or rippled?

mine are pretty glazed....but their not warped at all. Tho mum n dad had an EL with warped pads, they were getting them machined but they sold the car before they did. If the pads are not smooth you'll know about it when u brake lol.

I would have to say it might be the rotors that are causing the problem, even after new brake pads are fitted if their is the slightest indentation on the rotor then it will start making the noises you are describing.
You will have to either replace them if the indentations are bad or if its not too serious then you can get them machined. I sort of have that problem with my XR6 but its no where as serious as it could be, replaced the brakes just in time

It sounds like it is in the caliper. It will make the creaking noise even when the car is stationary when you apply the brakes but it is not as bad . It seems that when the car is moving the caliper is moving a little bit. I have taken the pads out a few times and replaced them with a better set, bendex premiem, and it is quiet for a few hundred k's but eventually comes back. I have used caliuper grease on the caliper slides and even on the clip on the back of the inside brake pad and it all ends up the same. I thought that maybe the disk has a bit of wear and the disk is actually flexing when the brakes are applied but they don't look that badly worn?? Just wondering if anyone else with the same vehicle has the same problem and have cured it..?

i've been putting up with it for a while also in my ebxr8 when pads were fitted discs were too thin for machining so i recon thats my problem

I'm surprised only one person has suggested it, but being a "creaking" noise, I would think the callipers are in need of a rebuild/replacement. Mine do it too, I just don't have the $$$ to do it.
Speaking of which, has anyone attempted a calliper rebuild? If so, how hard is it? |
