My ZONELLI slotted and dimpled are still braking well and have not warped or distorted after 17,000 (which is a record for me - all my previous installations warped within 5000...!) However, they have started sqweeeking quite annoyingly when stopping after they heat up a little...

Squeeking is most likely the pads.
what brand are they Tony?

Stuffed if I know. The guys who sold me the ZONELLI's gave me the recommended pad with them. Semi metallic. I think the old pads that were Bendix or something still have enough meat on them to be put back in. Was thinking of putting pads in, but car has been over its budget recently and have to keep momentum on the other bits too!
Have even sprayed them with a CRC anti sqwuek product that leaves a silver powder on surface that gets burnt in when you apply brake heavily a few times. Odd product - seems to work for a while - even took away the ticking noise that the slots create for about 50k's on first application. No worries, brake sqwueel is least of worries really Rick old Bean. Been trying to sort out wether I should buy this old XF 5 speed manual or whether I am pissing in the wind.... Would be bloody nice to have a manual for a while tho. If it blows up I can find a better one or put one of the autos back in I suppose. I thought I had warped the front right rotor a little but further driving tests lead me to believe it was something else. At worse a "bent front axle". Hang on. A WHAT? Hmmm - As it happens one of the tyres (front right) was a little out of round (not quite the same characteristics as a flat spot) as was wider on the rim at one point. Go on then - before you laugh - you try diagnosing that just by driving the damn car! Okay, nighty night. Am off to bed - have to actually do a little work in the morning. |

I went to DBA slots, with EBS greens, synth fluids (over kill for the fat ol mont - or so I thought) Some nana driving and then some high speed pull downs in the back roads of westy land to bed them in, and... Fantastic, no shudders, fade, (although a little dust, small price to pay) A must investment, even now when used just standard driving they are fantastic, what a difference. Recomended.

What kind of price would you be looking at for 4 of the DBA slotted rotors and EBC pads to suit then?

Question: Can I machine normal brakes so that they are slotted and/or drilled? Or is that just a stupid idea?

that would be a silly idea considering noramal Ford rotors are designed to do a job within certain parameters (stress for example) if you cutting them up you take them beyound what they were designed for, better just stick with ebay's RDA slotteds, that way if something does go wrong you can rip it up them.

Drilled and slotteds are down to under $200 a pair which is damn reasonable.

I got ADB Slotted Front EF/EL rotors for $115 a pair, plus free brake pads.
There is no reason at all not to upgrade your brakes. BenJ

Whats the best fluid that could be put into the brakes for a Falcon that does some hard braking?
Someone ealier mentioned they put synthetic fluid but said it was overkill?

brake fluid absorbs water, and rusts all steel parts inside the system.a flush-bleeding removes this and worm bits of rubber and debris.once a year and dot 4 or above brake fluid.dont forget that the rubbers wear and pistons can sieze up.mine where siezed at 250k---front,rears are alloy-rubbers only.check the whole caliper-boots and pins,to reduce brake pad drag on rotors.
